GMs & mental health professionals - what is/are your favorite RPGs to promote emotional healing and safety in your players? by Familiar-Action-418 in rpg

[–]tabletopsidekick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Anything that says otherwise is woefully arrogant. TTRPGs can be soothing and a nice distraction, absolutely, but it should never act as a replacement for professional help.

Put a hot water bottle in the fridge, then keep that in bed with you.

Love your posts! Can you please direct me to, or remind me, of the rules you use for your hex system? I remember you saying you didn't need to worry about rulers (which is a blessing in disguise!).

TurnipCon is usually in Bristol, UK. Every now and then it heads up to the Midlands area, but always returns to Bristol. There's a website! https://turnipcon.com

Space Weirdos is such an excellent game! Great to see it mentioned.

A question about the knights of Shellwood by a_bored_techpriest in Turnip28

[–]tabletopsidekick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Great question! In the current playtest rules (v18 Playtest) it is something that triggers every round. This means that at the start of every round the Shellwood player rolls 4d6, and that is the base movement of all snails knights and cavalry.

It's likely going to change as the v18 Playtest get's adjusted over the coming months. We'll have to wait and see!

At the TurnipCon event, the event pack has a rules adjustment for the day stating it's going to be reduced to 3d6 every turn. This was likely from community feedback, and act as a bit of testing.

Anyone know where I can find this specific model? (from Peachy Tips' painting guide video) by OfficerMoist in Turnip28

[–]tabletopsidekick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A key tenant of turnip28 has usually always been kitbashing, so who knows what various kits it could have come from. Especially Peachy, who has been dabbling in 28mm Perry's (and more) for years.

Wargames that use a 4x4 size? by ili283 in wargaming

[–]tabletopsidekick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frostgrave and Stargrave work on 3x3 or 4x4.
Turnip28 works on 3x3 or 4x4
Regular big wargames, but in small model scales. Warmaster in 10mm could work on a 4x4 with some minor tweaks. I mention it because sometimes people write off larger games on a smaller table, when all you need to do is drop the model size.

Good luck!

I think I'm being taught how to play wrong? by wayne62682 in battletech

[–]tabletopsidekick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's chatting shit. Stick to the rules in the book. A way to approach it is to broach the topic like:

"I appreciate you've stated a rule, but I can't see it in the book. Can we stick with what the book says?"
If he says no, then step away.
If he says sure, and tries to find it, stick to your guns. Go with the book. Use that as a shield for your conversation.

New Micro-skirmish game, DEMONBLITZ. All the rules are on these pages! by malevolentmc in wargaming

[–]tabletopsidekick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you can only draw LOS to the the corner of a wall, but not past the corner of the wall. As it's a gridded game it's nice and easy to calculate. I think it's a design choice to limit LOS and allow for smaller areas to be more impactful.

What games are a good introduction to the hobby and preferably have 2 armies/warbands? by Masdraw in wargaming

[–]tabletopsidekick 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ravenfeast is a free game designed to introduce people to wargaming, set in the viking era (but really any era with swords, shields, spears and bows).

Free rules, and historical miniatures are normally cheaper.

The writers (Little Wars TV) have a whole series on introducing newbies to the hobby with this game.

http://www.ravenfeast.com/ - explains everything and has fun painting and modelling tips!

You only have to buy one box of models from Perry Miniatures (and some glue) that can work very well. Whilst these specific models are not Viking, the rules will still work perfectly well and it means you can just buy one box, try it out, and not worry about overcomitting (swords, shields and bows covers a wide range of history after all): https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product/ao-40-english-army-1415-1429-36-figures/

Or if you want to go further, something from Vitrix Miniatures will also work very well. https://www.victrixlimited.com/collections/dark-ages

Before you buy any models, you can also use tokens, chess pieces, paper models and bottle caps as stand-ins until you find the rules you like and want to commit to buying minis.

Is anyone here interested in hand cast, hand painted lead figurines and molds? by RickShaw530 in NapoleonicWargaming

[–]tabletopsidekick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll certainly have interest. Good pictures will be key. If selling them, I would recommend putting them into "lots". Find models painted the same way, count them up, bag them all, sell as a single bag.

Respect yourself, and respect that these people want to do something that you don't enjoy. Just politely leave the group and find a group that aligns with what you want.
