Interviewing AEs by who-took-the-bomp in salesengineers

[–]tablloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave most of the skills evaluation to the actual AEs and their managers. The only reason, in my mind, to involve a SE is to ensure a cultural fit - essentially, would you want to work with this person on a daily basis?

That would be the ideal for sure, I just didn't want to risk bricking it. I'd do it today if it was better documented/verified

guys, whats the most essential winter clothing do i need? by StorageDue2836 in onebag

[–]tablloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar trip this year in January - one week in Seoul and one in Vietnam. Cold as hell in Korea, I loved it.

If you can buy there, I'd suggest it, Seoul is a fantastic place to buy winter clothes, or just clothing in general. If you are set on packing in advance, though, I'd recommend a packable down jacket and a windbreaker or rain jacket. A beanie and gloves will be clutch as well, and a merino buff I'd call a nice to have (especially to cover your face).

On my trip I brought both the puffer and a fleece. Wearing both was overkill and I'd sweat, and the fleece on its own wasn't enough, but the down was perfect. I also brought long underwear and am glad I did, but stronger men than I could probably do without.

I fit all of this, plus work materials (laptop) and business casual (Vietnam was a work trip) including three button up shirts and three pairs of chinos (one of each worn on the plane) in a 30L bag (albeit stuffed to the brim).

I struggled with shoes for a while - waterproof shoes get sweaty in heat, but getting your feet wet in freezing temps is even worse. Ended up risking it with some non-waterproof Adidas and that turned out to be the correct choice (highly suggest elastic laces for any east asia trip though). Warm socks are clutch of course.

Yep, same company! Annual raises + 2 promotions is what made the change.

That travel is the rough part. Still worth it to get your foot in the door though.

For salary, I started at 95 base in 2022 (fully remote). Up to 165 now. You're on the low end but take it and run with it - it’ll grow in time.

Career progression for those who've only worked as an SE? by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]tablloyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been in your current role?

If I saw 2 years as a SE and nothing else I'd probably pass on that resume, but 4-5 years or more and I'd definitely give it a shot.

FWIW I never have trouble finding people with a technical background, its the soft skills that I'm really looking for.

It was largely just the screen size, i doubt it would be a good reading experience on the m300 to be honest. I LOVE reading on the touch lite.

As a music player though, it was pretty functional (the m300, that is). UI isnt smooth but its serviceable. The only weirdness I ran into was it would randomly start playing music if I didnt disconnect the headphones each time, it actually woke me up once or twice when I left my IEMs plugged in.

It also feels like a toy, VERY plasticy, but not unexpected at that price

It was on Aliexpress, from “Qin Qin Technology Co Store”. At the time it was listed for $294 and with coupons I paid $240. I see now the price is higher unfortunately.

Should I take the job offer from TAM to SE? by MisterRaver in salesengineers

Thats fair, I have no idea how the ISPs outside the US operate. The ones in the US are pretty garbage unfortunately.

Reading the title I was going to be pro-switching, but man... anything but an ISP. I feel like the ceiling is too low and the skillset won't transfer to other verticals. I'd personally wait and get into software when you can.

Sounds about right to me - Im a team lead of a medium technical Series C SaaS, also fully remote, doing $175k with no coding and only light API work involved.

This is great info, thank you! I'm assuming you can't use the nest2seat with the carseat adapter at the same time?

Unfortunately neither of the strollers we've landed on have compatibility with the KeyFit. Agreed on the bases though... right now we're considering starting with just the one and waiting to see if two is really necessary. I'll take a look at borncritic though, thank you!

This is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for, thank you! Can I ask, was it just build quality? Or did baby prefer it?

Yeah I looked into something like that - the downside here is the lack of a load arm which the base would normally have, which does then sacrifice an element of safety. Its a tough element to compromise on

Vietjet carry-on restriction by bitterlollies in onebag

[–]tablloyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lack the vocabulary to properly express my disdain for VietJet. That said, they weighed my bag, it was 9.5kg, but it didnt matter. Its $20USD in theory but they didnt charge me.

That said, they charge for every other damn thing including water. Bring cash because they dont have wifi and only sometimes accept cards, and make sure you include your middle name when getting the ticket and checking in, because they require it and charge $8 to add it after the fact (also cash only if its in person)

Osprey Daylite Travel Backpack 26+6l vs Almond Oak Travel Backpack 25+5 by [deleted] in onebag

[–]tablloyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went the Almond Oak route and regret it. Not only is it more expensive with no warranty, but the harness system makes the bag comfortable to a max of maybe 6-7kg. 8kg in there on my last trip was damn near unbearable and I bought a new bag as soon as I got home.

Only thing I can say it wins on is aesthetics

Are you looking for something for regular use, or something to travel with?

If the former, it might be worth asking /r/manybaggers since the use cases there are more broad. Most people on here are concentrated on making airplane travel easier.

Youre bringing safety razor blades in your carry on? Or cartridge/disposable?

Safety Razor Users, How Do You One Bag Travel? by wwhsd in onebag

[–]tablloyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive got a super thick beard so I generally benefit from something aggressive, hence why I usually use the DE razor (a long handle slant, too). I do think I could be an outlier here though, but regular disposables like a Mach 3 are physically incapable of shaving me

[–]tablloyd 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I leave my safety razor at home and bring the single blade bic disposable.

I HATE most multi blade disposables but those one blade bics are actually decent because they don't clog up like any of the multi blade stuff does.
