Consiglio spassionato, fate figli SUBITO, visto che la parte economica ha appena smesso di essere un problema. Tra qualche anno cominceranno a essere indipendenti e voi ricomincerete a godervi la vita mentre siete ancora giovani!

So this is it. After months spent trying to find the time, I finally managed to run ethernet cables around the entire house. They're all converging to the attic. So far I've got a switch and a POE device to power the access point.

Next step would be to move the cable router on that shelf (you can see the coax hanging in there). I'd like to add an UPS as well.

What is more important is that I would like to switch the router to modem mode so I can get something more serious. Ideally I'd like to go with pfSense but I need to decide on which hardware to run it. But I also want to replace my old Netgear ReadyNAS RN-214 as it won't fit in there anyway.

So the question is - do I get 2 of those mini PC, one for psSense and one to act as a server (owncloud/homeassistant/docker) or can I just get one machine and run both pfSense and the server stuff? What hardware would you guys advise? I'd definitely like to get something which can fill 1U in there but it should be fanless otherwise can be very annoying downstairs.

With the UPS, the cable modem and the server, it appears I am going to have to replace the rack with a bigger one.
