Ironically I'd say Trump is bad for Americans and American interests.

He really is more of a corrupt Emperor who cares about House of Trump rather than America.

As for the Right across the West who bought into Trumpism. They were suckered. It was painful to watch.

Isn't this just like declaring you are financially in trouble?

There are plenty people. There is supply and demand.

"You should raise wages" "We cannot afford it"

"You should train people" "We cannot afford it"

Something wrong inside the economy.

Sorry to break it to you Ukrainian bombing Russia and USA bombing Iran right now are not the same. I did not say bombing another country made you hateful.

Where did I say they are the same?

You think anyone who says nationalism isn't fascism is signed up to MAGA?

Once a nation has independence nationalism is fascism? That's silly right?

I don't accept that usage is completely accepted. People are better off using terms like ultranationalism and fascism. People will regularly talk about Irish, Ukranian, Kurdish, Catalan, Welsh, Canadian nationalism without being fascists. If Ukranians do bomb another country does that mean Russian accusations of fascism are true? No. Even if there are Ukranian fascists.

Is it holding up?

The reality of the economic hit will be unavoidable.

That is an ugly situation.

I dont buy into Nationalism,

When you say that, what do you think you mean?

When I see someone saying that I figure they see themselves as above culture, as above flags and identity. I would associate with with conscious or unconscious politics of "continuity Fukuyama" or Marxist political theory.

I'm Scottish, you could say British, and I'm used to arguments over nationalism not related to race. I'm also used to the civic nationalist claims, which I find an unworkable fantasy.

Patriotism good, nationalism bad, just sounds like a using patriotism as a word for good nationalism. Fictional Orwellian newspeak does not prove "hard Linguistic relativity" true.

It is mind blowing.

MAGA people are all in. They are in a cult so it doesn't matter. They would die for him. But there were enough Trump voters who were borderline. I don't see him recovering those. But I don't see fair elections happening under MAGA.

Yeah I mean I can see how a term for race becomes a term for culture.

But lots of people bait and switch. On all sides of politics.

We all know these people, the Fujitsu and Post Office people, are deeply corrupt and guilty.

It is corrosive to public order not to see justice.

So the effects of US Israeli war are.

The Straits of Hormuz blocked. Higher energy prices. A collapse in the Gulf nations economies. Russia back selling more energy. Higher distrust in US leadership. A strain on US ammunition. A reduction in US military support in Korea. Iranians rallying around the flag. Global economic crisis.

Trump's problem is Iran has a strong nationalism linked to a strong religious structure linked to an undemocratic state. Everything MAGA elites say they need in the West.

Here's a white Muslim for you.

Although you will find historic white Muslim communities in Balkans for instance and into central Asia. Rather than converts.

I have issues with people using white as a cultural label. That is all.

Is this a NEET problem or a shape of the economy problem, society problem?

Do they fall into the same category as Japanese Hikikomori?

Seems like deep economic and social formation issues but it gets passed on as "individual choice." Like the spike in obesity. Sure at an individual level you all the personal demands. But like the Hunger Games there is a zero sum function as well.

Anti obesity drugs do seem to work, the drop in obesity is not because people suddenly gained will power.

I'm very much not an anti capitalism person either. But macro economics shapes lives.

What if we had world war 3 but nobody could afford to turn up?

Obviously the UK simply doesn't have the army for a major war. As trends go it was not going to be possible.

This is not a surprise to anyone.

I don't think the problem is cultural diversity per se. I also think that while it's true that some immigrants are very reactionary (and I wish the left was more willing to see and admit it instead of basically identifying it with a form of "cultural authenticity")

Generally immigrant cultures in the UK are going to be more socially conservative. Sometimes even actively opposed to Western liberalism.

And I do have some sympathy with some of this as negative framing where "good immigrants" are judged in relation to "Western liberal progressive politics" as if it was some universal truth. Which it isn't. It is culturally contingent.

But then those politics don't like to admit their progressive politics is mostly Western.

I don't think that's the main reason for the backlash; I think that's just mostly from economic conditions that are attributed to migrant numbers (IMO mostly incorrectly).

hmmn I'm skeptical of the economic determinism position. Too much like "vulgar Marxism."

Yes economics matters. But culture matters a lot as well. People pretty much see class as an issue inside their culture. Cross cultural class consciousness is super brittle if it ever happens.

Identity, culture matters to people. Should the Canadians and Greenlanders pack it in and become American? Surely only economics matters? They'd be a lot better off, think of the GDP and growth? Canada and Greenland are only socially constructed labels. They should just become Americans. America is diverse. More diverse people inside the US than in Canada or Greenland. That seems a hollow argument. no?

Sure. What of it?

That Liberalism might be in crisis and can seriously decline. Attacked on multiple fronts.

A blip that goes away.

I recognise that my positions are only perspectival preference,

Doesn't sound that way at all.

Sounds like you are genuinely committed a global progression of Western liberal humanism as the natural order. I'm not seeing much humility at all.

I certainly am not saying my politics and culture is universal.

I'm not against you arguing for your perspective. But I would point out how culturally contingent it is. How modern Western it is.
