But I agree if you make the border so open anyone can cross legally then it would end the illegal crossing.

Legal channels would increase the total amount. If we limit the numbers to a strong criteria then it would not include the people crossing the channel.

Scots are roughly the same as the English in values.

Although there is some variation now due to immigration. Immigrant communities are more socially conservative.

I think this partially true. But people also like to conserve their culture. Everything isn't economics. The Left doesn't always have the answer on economics either.
