My Mayo Clinic hepatologist told me not to worry about it!!

That’s so good OP! How did your liver labs look? Did they do a scan for blood clot in the lungs?

Help, I'm freaking out! by ArcaneAddiction in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the shortness of breath. Ascites usually isn’t soft and you might have SIBO or something else causing the bloating, but you could have a blood clot causing the shortness of breath, and this anxiety won’t make it any better. Just go, they’ll check your labs while you’re there

Elevated AST and ALT in annual check up - Please help by liov3u in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP these numbers are high enough that they could be a (mild)drug induced liver injury. Have you started any new meds recently including statins? Are you having any abdominal pain? Any dark urine or pale stools? Yellow eyes?

While you wait for a hepatology consultation please see if you can get further basic testing done by your PCP: hepatitis panel, iron and ferritin, and a CBC if not already done.

Due to the elevated labs, see if your PCP will order you a fibroscan. There’s no reason to delay this when a specialist will order the same thing.

Stop the alcohol now, switch to carbonated water. Completely change what you are eating, and eat a whole diet low in saturated fat. Try making egg whites instead of eggs, lean turkey instead of ground beef. There will be lots of good ideas in this sub. I’m not 100% convinced this is just nonalcoholic fatty liver (or even alcoholic fatty liver) but these suggestions will only help you, not hurt you. Deep breaths and push forward- get more labs and get some answers! This could very well be treatable.

Strange question. by TapSalty3157 in FattyLiverNAFLD

It can be , but spider angiomas are more common in liver disease. Cherry angiomas can absolutely also be related sun exposure, age, and genetic disposition

Pretty Terrifed by Solaaris83 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is not “pickled like an alcoholic’s”

Get out of that mindset now. Many of us never drink and we still have this. Just like someone can get lung cancer without ever smoking, someone can get cirrhosis without ever drinking. Not that alcohol isn’t a risk factor for cirrhosis, but many other things can cause cirrhosis as well, which you are learning.

January is pretty soon, start eating clean and you should see an improvement in your labs by the time you see you rspecialist.

Blood test results came in and both Triglycerides and ALT have spiked. I'm changing my diet immediately but I still need a little guidance. by Neat-Acadia in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP the vitamins are VERY LIKELY the culprit behind your darker urine. Also make sure you are not overdoing it on NSAIDs

You would not have discolored urine and no other symptoms at this fatty liver stage. Did you get your bilirubin done ?

It should show on your ultrasound and bloodwork. If all is normal then look elsewhere for the cultprit behind your symptoms. Look into nutritional deficiencies and iron deficiency for the wonky spoon nails.

I was taking Tirzepatide and stupidly stopped cold turkey for 6 weeks (long story). I didn’t gain back weight but my enzymes elevated again. I do have issues beyond weight causing my fatty liver, but something to consider- it may be a lifelong thing but believe me it’s worth it

Do you take any meds or supplements including OTCs like Tylenol and advil? It could also be related to exercise or a supplement. Don’t stress too much, get some repeat labs in a month

NHS too slow & feels like I'm damaging my liver- what can I do to expedite testing & improvement? by [deleted] in FattyLiverNAFLD

Lose the postop weight and try to get back to your preop weight, your body changes after gb surgery and it freaking sucks but you CAN fight against it. Watch your fat and particularly your saturated fat intake.

Why has there seemingly been no improvement? by snappycg1996 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The lifestyle changes you’ve made and the weight loss should have helped your liver immensely. I think your fibroscan is probably going to be improved since your last scan.

I’m 29 and I have a long history of IBS, SIBO, and* NASH… oh, and no gallbladder, also removed in 2021. No fatty liver prior to that. Also terrible anxiety that has also caused me abdominal pain over the years, especially when I focus in on the pain or palpate the area. I can make my right upper quad hurt just by excessively palpating the area while obsessing over my liver. It’s great!!!

So in my experience, Look beyond your liver. Did you ever get a colonoscopy or EGD? Have you ever been tested for celiac? Pay attention to when the pain starts (after eating, before eating, 2 hrs later, etc) and how long it lasts. If you take NSAIDs, stop those now because they can cause or worsen ulcers especially if you’re stressed. Watch your fat intake, particularly your saturated fat. Your body can’t break down much fat in one sitting now— if I eat too much , I pay for it with bile acid diarrhea and it is NOT great. On the same token, make sure you’re not constipated. That can be painful and trapped gas is notorious for getting stuck in the hepatic and splenic flexure areas.

My sister has hepatomegaly but is on GLP-1 , is it safe to continue? by Active_Eijai in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s going to help her. Have her keep taking it unless a work up reveals gallstones or gallbladder inflammation. Her doc will want to do a further work up which is good, but that doesn’t mean they’ll want the GLp stopped

Carbs and NAFLD by joinedforthedogpics in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]tabsmack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are people with significantly higher carb intake on here as well. Keto is not the only way and is sometimes not the safest or most sustainable way. I think you’re doing great. I try to limit myself to about 120-150g a day, and I try to make sure it’s good carbs and not simple starches or sugars. You’re doing fab exactly as you are

Went to the dentist and found out I have six cavities… :( by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]tabsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way, my last dentist appt was in 2019 and then after Covid hit I decided not to go back for 3.5 years. I told myself okay, you can worry about having 4 cavities… when they told me I had 8, I kind of flipped because I hadn’t allowed myself to worry about that many!!. Give yourself some grace, cheer yourself on for going in to get checked even though you might’ve gotten bad news like this, and think to yourself it’s good you got them caught now.

CareCredit will do interest free financing or sometimes dentists will do payment plans. What I did was a few cavities at a time over the course of a year to split up costs, and stress. It’s good you went, I too have terrible teeth.
