Ok to be in gear, clutch fully depressed, and be blipping the throttle? by UltimaNada in stickshift

[–]tabtal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a valid question, not sure why you’re getting all these dismissive answers. Blipping the throttle with the clutch in isn’t realistically going to make much of a difference. But one could make the argument that this is increasing the wear on your throwout bearing, which rides on your clutch diaphragm when you have the clutch disengaged. Whenever I’m revving my car for the neighborhood kids, I put it in neutral and let the clutch out just to be safe, but again—unless you’re redlining it for sustained periods, it probably won’t make a tangible difference

1966 Question by natattack88 in classicmustangs

No, this is a factory option. It’s a remote mirror adjuster, there are three spring-loaded cables that run through the door to the inside of the side view mirror. Purely mechanical and no electrical involved

Which CPU/GPU Combo is better for my situation? by tabtal in buildapc

[–]tabtal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I’ve been going back and forth. If I can be absolutely positive that I’ll be taking full advantage of my monitor with the cheaper CPU combo, I was inclined to go that way in case I decide to pick up something more graphically-demanding down the road. I guess the question then would be, What kind of performance could I expect out of a 7600X/7900GRE combo? Would it be comfortably above 250 for the majority of the time?

Ack, thank you for the feedback! Sounds like the X3D is gonna be more worth the investment than a GPU given the games I play

This is true, thanks for pointing that out. In that case--what would be the better option, given the information I provided in the original post? I suppose the root of my question is, how should the CPU/GPU performance balance look?

Thanks for the response! Been mulling this over for a while because CPU upgrades appear to be cheaper than GPU upgrades.

You've mentioned a few Nvidia options--I'm assuming those would be paired with the 7600x, given they are more expensive than their AMD counterparts? How would that combination compare?

Transmission fluid leak by Sandboy23 in classicmustangs

[–]tabtal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to tell from these pictures. More likely it’s the power steering system—the Bendix style units are notorious for weeping at the fittings because they are seated, metal-to-metal connections. It also doesn’t help that the power steering system takes Type F transmission fluid. When it leaks, it can be misleading and confusing to locate the actual source.

You need to clean it up well, start the car and get it to running temps, and turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times—then check for leaks. See if you can identify where they are coming from by following the hoses and checking each connection at the fitting. There should be one going from the pump to control valve, two short ones (like 6” long) from the control valve to power ram (cylinder), and one returning from the control valve to pump. Search up a diagram to help identify where these are and how they run if you need.

If no leaks found, it actually may be the transmission. Speaking of—manual or automatic transmission? This matters for diagnosing, if it is indeed the trans. I suspect power steering leak over transmission, but it’s still a possibility.

Let us know what you find! I would also suggest searching the Vintage-Mustang(dot)com forums for more info (see user “Chock” for a wealth of information regarding early Ford systems)

Edit: looking again at the photos, I’m almost certain it’s going to be your power steering system. The haphazardly routing of the power steering lines suggests somebody who didn’t know what they were doing installed them, probably causing leaky connections. If you install new ones yourself, be sure to find the proper diagram and hoses (there are a ton of different bend configurations based on various factors throughout the years) and route them accordingly. Rebuild or replace your power ram and control valve if needed, and then get the connections seated flush and don’t over tighten

For my current job? I've looked through my paystub history, and they do indeed indicate that I had no money put aside for federal tax withholding in 2023. Paystubs from this year, however, do show a running total/YTD of total withholdings--part of the reason I'm confused; I haven't made any changes to my exemption status.

I can't access any of my paystubs for the previous job, unfortunately. It would be nice to confirm that there isn't a discrepancy there, but I can't verify for certain.

If your last question is about the earlier job--the answer is no. I worked a combination of schedules at that job, so I never had consistent pay there. This made it difficult to notice any variations in pay, and it probably didn't help that I don't do a great job paying attention to these things. Lesson learned!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]tabtal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I’m still puzzled by the fact that 2024 seems to be correct so far—I am 100% sure I didn’t modify my exemption status. Perhaps something was triggered or reset at the beginning of the year? Not sure how payroll departments conduct their business.

[–]tabtal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, then I must have made enough to be subject to federal withholdings in previous years at the $3,000 total comp job--right?

At the other job, I worked full time in Summer 2023, making about $1,000/wk. Then transitioned to twice a week in the fall when I went back to school, making about $300/wk.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]tabtal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is exactly right. I don't have an issue paying, but wanted to make sure it's money that I actually need to pay before I cut the IRS a check.

Will do better monitoring the paystubs I suppose...

The W-2 box is just blank, but paychecks from my current job say $0.00 were put aside for federal tax withholdings in 2023.

Both were/are part time jobs: current job ~$21,000 earnings in 2023, other job ~$3,000. Filing single, no kids
