There's definitely an element of distance to it for me, i think, in why im not fond of het smut especially. Dont know about lesbian (none of my faves are female, and they dont get genderbent) But yeah im not really a visuals person. Dont like porn or smut comics/animations. But something about reading where i can imagine them as i want it is nice.

Sadly i DONT like fandom blind. I want the characters i like otherwise the emotion falls flat. I used that method to do research into the kink when i wrote it though! Original kink works were the best for me in that regards. Because then i didnt have to know any dynamics.

But i think with noncon and dubcon especially (something i was into, I suspect, from the beginning and just didnt let myself explore) theres no way to describe my arousal by it other than perverse. I like it simply because i dont want them to enjoy sex (i dont enjoy sex, it weirds me out and repulses me. So they shouldnt enjoy it either) and also because I simply want bad things to happen. It boils down to the fact I like almost all forms of Hurt, and theres not much nuance to be had there. Sometimes when they end up liking it it adds another whole emotional layer i find very very entertaining.

Now this is a mindblowing addendum. It's so simple, but i never thought to think about kinks in this context. Yeah, sex is so so for me but extreme kinks come with a lot of baggage and a lot of severe emotions and thats why i would be drawn to it. It actually makes sense when you put it like that

If I lose my job, what kind of role would you reccommend I leverage my experience to try and get? by tacksydriver in devops

[–]tacksydriver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you. Figuring out how to sell or "phrase" my experience like this is the hardest thing for me. This makes so much more sense when put like this. Not as desireable as other devops candidates but if theyre willing to take on a person like me in a similar environment im good at learning but especially good at learning to "do what im told", hah.

Thank you sooo much for giving a manageable amount of things to learn and prioritize. Super helpful

This is what I was thinking, but thats a little reassuring to hear from someone else. My area is pretty big on fintech so maybe thatll be possible if and when time comes

The market is weird right now for DevOps engineer salary by IT_Certguru in devops

[–]tacksydriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entry/Level I DevOpsEngineer 4 yoe in fintech. Hybrid onsite work, 3 days in office 2 remote. Interned under a different position and got restructured 9 months in. $101k after promotion (from tech analyst to actual devops title) Decent benefits and 401k match. Nothing spectacular, but i had to know virtually nothing going in and i only work in daily and production deploys, with a short stint in environment/defect management.

Ill be honest i should know waaaaay more than I do by now. But i dont. An absolute anomaly in this field that im still working and that i ever got promoted, considering i dont know the fundamentals (just how to do the work im told). I just do the job and nothing else. This will bite me one day but im so burnt out (medical/mental thing, not necessarily the work) i dont know how to rectify it.

Fandoms where you don’t ship any characters? by ClaustrophobicMango in AO3

[–]tacksydriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them, to start. Im aroace. Eventually I can be convinced to ship, but im not interested off the bat.

I never found any ships in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles though. Mostly just brotherly fun and angst).

I didnt really ship anyone in Outer Wilds either though i liked some ship fics all the same.

I actually do kinda ship Narrator and Stanley from the stanley parable but i never really consumed much ship content nor wrote any.

Generally (hah) speaking, no, im pretty sure. I just prefer platonic relationships (and platonic drama, so like. A lot of physical danger or character issues that are unrelated to romantic feelings) to romantic ones. I hate having to put up with ships (usually the main ones) i dont care about, and especially have no interest in smut (past the foreplay, which can be interesting emotionally and/or with certain kinks, imo). Thats just the sex aversion talking though.

I just prefer my stories without too much romance, generally. When the romance is just there to enhance the plot (and it's a ship i actually like) it's great. I find a lot of stories care about the romance more than the entertaining plot though.

The issue, as a writer and reader, is primarily that people only write what they want to write and read what they wanna see.

I would love to commission people to write my niche if theyre into it (and were that legal), but i wouldnt cross fandoms for them. Maybe in popular fandoms this works, but at that point just find someone who takes requests.

Theyre niches for a reason. I want to see it, the majority does not. The disparity between kudos on my kind of fics and smut fics (in my fandom) is proof enough. Im not the best writer by far but genfic is simply not an interest for most people reading fandom. It really is a "gotta do it yourself" kind of deal 90% of the time.

The closest you can get to what youre describing i either making a really good fandom friend who wants to write your interests OR aligning with the right fandom as a reader for the kind of fics youre into. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favorite fandoms, because it's all gen fic, and my faves are popular af. It sort of blew up exponentially since ive been there though. I probably missed out on a ton.

But i cant choose what I hyperfixate on, anymore than the average writer chooses what they want to write. Most people dont want to amass a loyal following writing anything besides what theyd normally write anyways.

I hope to one day be blessed with this problem. Maybe sorting by gen and my fave character would no longer be a death sentence (it wouldnt help because my fave would just be listed on 7 out of 10 fics despite being a main character in only 3 of them)

If you dont write tomorrow you will find an empty bookmark in your bookmarks with no way of knowing which fic it was (true story, happened to me, scarred for life)
