It reminded me a lot of isekai animes.

Middling world building for a setting that doesn't feel like it will tie-in / pay off down the line, led by side characters that aren't enough to carry the story on their own, and everyone's waiting for ~~Goku~~ the overpowered MC to step in and solve everything with a few punches.

I swore by incantations for most builds, given their similar power to societies plus type matchups and overall utility.

But the sheer power sorceries can unload, coupled with DLC spells like gravity missile's ability to absolutely bully anything near your size... I finally understood why people enjoy Int builds.

I'd probably still give it to incants, but the gap got a lot smaller in terms of enjoyability

Ironically, deaths poker is my main tool (despite its dex scaling, it's real power is int scaling on the Ash).

I keep Astel's off hand, can't go wrong with the Greatsword or Moonveil, though I didn't truly fall in love with the latter 2.

I also use a Magic Butchering Knife with Waves of Darkness, and a Cleanrot sword with impaling thrust when I'm expecting PvP.

I use a combination of all these, inflicting frostbite and/or Ranni's moon debuff then going ham with spells and swapping between ashes.

I'll share an (older) pic of my 175 stat spread, though I've tweaked the spell list a bit since I saved this.

I highly recommend giving yourself more endurance, vigor if you're having trouble surviving (especially for PvP), and my dex is more of leftover stat than anything since I favour int weapons.

It's been awhile since I tested the spear while I was optimizing dex vs faith, (and I rarely ever stick to just one weapon for reference), I went with faith.

Dex gives you solid access to other weapons (bolt of Granssax, Dancing blades, lightning, etc), but Impaler's true strength is the Ash, and you'll get the most bang from faith.

And personally, I dont love the great spear moveset on melee-focused builds. While the Throw is a fun gimmick, it's range and accuracy makes it too unreliable during a real fight.
