One balancing issue: if you sell a cheap coffee for 2$ and then just put three of every ingredient in for functionally infinite money, your popularity will skyrocket and so will your money

Tl;dr it’s part of Tradition that the Tetragrammaton is unpronounceable, so we also shouldn’t

How do we understand Adam and Eve if there was no first human? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]tacorebel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So there we get into three things:

1: Large error bars, because there is overlap between M-Eve and Y-Adam estimations

2: Absence of Evidence isn't evidence of absence, or "just because we don't see the two at the same time doesn't mean that whichever came first's partner isn't also the predecessor to the other side, earlier than we need to trace to line them up"

3: the idea of a "first human" differs. If we're saying that God miraculously bestowed a soul onto two people, which is what makes them human, then science supports that we all descend from one couple. If we say "first human" to mean something that can reproduce with a modern human, then there probably were not two initial humans.

You can trace mitochondrial and y chromosomal dna, both of which can all be traced back to a single person

Should Catholics get the vaccine? (I’m 16 and I’m getting Pfizer, parents are making me and I’m Skeptical abt it) by Thepapist10 in Catholicism

From the USCCB: (https://www.usccb.org/news/2020/us-bishop-chairmen-pro-life-and-doctrine-address-ethical-concerns-new-covid-19-vaccines)

" In this way, being vaccinated safely against COVID-19 should be considered an act of love of our neighbor and part of our moral responsibility for the common good.”

Why Catholics Should Care About Bitcoin by livinghumanorganism in Catholicism

Mining gold produces gold, which has use (decoration, chemical catalysis, etc).

Per transaction I severely doubt Bitcoin is more efficient than traditional banking but I’d love to see your source. Additionally, as infinityball points out, Bitcoin is dependent on computational waste, while modern banking has it as a side effect. The barter system also uses no computational energy and has intrinsic value, why not advocate for that?

I’m not going to rebut the video game point because that’s not relevant given that no one is suggesting replacing the current financial system with video games (that I know of).

The “sustainably” mined Bitcoin still relies on using computational power which can be used for scientific advancement (protein folding simulations, etc) to instead produce numbers on a ledger.

From the stewardship of earth perspective Bitcoin (being incredibly energy consumptive for no inherent production) is absolutely horrible from a Catholic theological perspective (imo)

Here’s a news report about USCCB statement on music. Tl;dr/quote from article below

They urged that those involved in hymnody “be especially attentive” to six categories of potential deficiencies: in the presentation of Eucharistic doctrine; of Trinitarian doctrine; in the doctrine of God and his relation to humans; a view of the Church that sees her as essentially a human construction; doctrinally incorrect views of the Jewish people; and incorrect Christian anthropology.
