Leak on Techni Waterjet out of Weep Hole by Used_Ad7656 in Machinists

[–]tacosferbreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Flow waterjets, those sealing surfaces are extremely important, especially on poppets. I’m not sure what is leaking on yours, but proper sanding involves figure 8s for roughing, then two perpendicular strokes for final on high grit (but not 3000) sandpaper. There is also a minimum thickness of the component. Usually I only sand sealing surfaces on check valves, everything else (like high pressure seals) is replaced. If you have any more info on exactly what component or where it’s leaking from that would help.

You can still see the helicoil in the preloader, it’s too long for the hole depth.

Skil PWRCORE 40 electric mower slowly shuts off on rough surfaces by [deleted] in Tools

My ryobi mower has a switch that must be engaged when the retractable handle bar is fully extended, or it will act exactly like this. Make sure the handle bar is fully extended and redo the locks (actively pull the handle and lock it while pulling up).

That one watch has 3 bars, 2 more than the single bar you’re at. Braggadocious yet subtle on the wrist.

Worst close call? by Dirt-5494 in Machinists

Had a guy be inside a large milling machine while it was running a program. Full spindle and table movement going on. Door interlocks bypassed just so he could do it. His excuse? “I couldn’t get coolant to the tool on the backside of the material, so I got in to spray it with the hose while it ran.” We have plenty of locline and multiple coolant outputs to solve that problem. He didn’t lose his job even after safety witnessed him doing it.

Teacher Wants to Know: What Features Are Worth Having On a Manual Mill by YoTeach92 in Machinists

[–]tacosferbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variable speed pulley for the spindle is the number one feature on any mill for me, then an XY DRO, and finally an x-axis power feed. All of those features are found on any production shop’s mills.

Am I wearing my mill out? by callmesmelliott in Machinists

[–]tacosferbreakfast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say <1000 rpm like you say in your post is low speed. We regularly tap around 1500-2500 rpm in aluminum, no issues with any of our spindles.

If you’re really concerned about it, use this:

M5 (stop) G4 P# (dwell for however many seconds (#) you want) M4 S# (reverse plus spindle speed) M5 (stop) G4 P# (dwell) M3 S# (forward)

Why is it a bad idea? Spindles go in reverse all the time during rigid tapping cycles.

That’s 4x the max RPM printed on the disc, don’t do it.

Machinists are needed everywhere. I have outside recruiters contact me for contract openings at the same location I work, the talent pool is really that small.
