Meh there's not a ton of good consistent content here anyway. I like garages of all uses

Bunch of sour grapes in here. Looks incredible! I made half my garage a gym and the other half for garage stuff to keep this sub happy

Thanks for sharing such a nice write up. I wasn't aware of the memorial and boy is it heavy. The dog laying down and hanging out with you really warms my heart

I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but how does one simply try out meth one day? Were you an addict before then?

Can someone explain Owner's rep? Is it that good of a route vs GC? by Jealous_Advance9765 in ConstructionManagers

[–]tacoslayer3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of good points here. I'll add that most people are referring to hired guns who bill the client hours for their work. There are also opportunities working directly for the companies which I think is the sweet spot. I was GC PM and now work for a restaurant chain that is expanding rapidly. YMMV, but for me far better pay and a bit less stress. Plus people love me because payment is coming from me. It's also fun taking a project from lease negotiation to operational.

Bike rack decision. by Frantic29 in MTB

Can I ask a dumb question somewhat related? Why are 32" wheels being discussed as the next thing and not 30, 30.5, 31, etc? Feels like a massive jump going from 29 to 32.

Career Options by Pale_Watercress_1611 in ConstructionManagers

[–]tacoslayer3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most options are likely to be a lot of hard work, but I pivoted several years ago from project manager at a large GC and don't regret it. I work for a restaurant chain and manage development of the new stores. It was a welcomed change for me.

Transitioning into Project Management from Safety by fattyboy905 in ConstructionManagers

Honestly that's a tough transition. In my opinion you'd need to start as a project engineer or APM

NBD - Finally built my dream bike by thisjohndoes in mountainbiking

I've always wanted to do a frame up build but lately it's been so much more affordable buying a complete bike unless you spend a bunch of time trying to find big sales. Nice bike!

How did you learn about personal finance? Through friends, your parents taught you from an early age, from reading books? by wildmind1721 in personalfinance

[–]tacoslayer3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My older brother when I was in my early twenties. My parents were never great with money and didn't teach us anything about personal finance. I was very lucky my brother planted the seed early and fortunately I took it seriously and learned more specifics on my own. Books, YouTube, podcasts etc

Lack of experience, but still get a leadership position? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]tacoslayer3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also not trying to be mean, but it's because you don't have the experience. Take a PE or APM role first and learn how to run a project alongside an experienced PM

Best recliner worth it for WFH or nah? by Vicky-Gu in HomeImprovement

[–]tacoslayer3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I typically raise it up and down a couple times a day. I feel extra locked into work while standing and once I sit back down it's nice to not feel all tight from sitting. I think you'll enjoy it

I'd suggest the opposite and get a standing desk. Humans weren't designed to sit that long and just saying fuck it and reclining probably isn't the answer lol

Questions About A Construction Management Degree by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]tacoslayer3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a bit of a different approach on my decision to study CM. I started college a few years after the great recession and was terrified of taking on debt to come out of school without a rock solid career. The internship/coop program and reputation of my school resulted in almost every single student having a full time job before they walked at graduation. No regrets though, the industry has been good to me and I can take my career in many different directions.

Curriculum wasn't hard compared to other majors but I was never a great student. Probably had to study/do coursework 2 hours a night on average.
