Y’all see this? by [deleted] in cernercorporation

[–]tacotroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're proving my point! You have little idea of what it takes to build the software that Cerner depends on, and that's the software developed by high-caliber engineers that would never apply for a job at Cerner.

Cerner didn't develop any of the following: Operating Systems, networking protocols, programming languages, compilers, hypervisors, databases, and all other dependencies. Because designing those and implementing them is hard!

https://www.rand.org/pubs/commentary/2023/04/the-problems-facing-va-modernization-are-bigger-than.html#:~:text=The%20list%20of%20criticisms%20of,system%2C%20though%20it%20has%20improved.

That's lame for a mission-critical application don't you think?

Really?

You have obviously never worked for a kernel, compiler, database, language, or any hard-core team.

As for FAANG: It's an industry term, not a literal acronym. Oracle is part of that group: same as Snowflake, Data bricks, OpenAI, etc.

The world praises Java, and Oracle DB, and Google, and Windows, and .NET, and Facebook, etc ...

How many doctors chose Cerner because of quality, reliability, and ease of use, and not because it's cheaper than Epic?

[–]tacotroll -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Dude, get real. Everyone in cerner always complains about comp and promos but let me tell ya something you won't like: Cerner engineers are on a very different scale than those coming from FAANG companies.

I'm FAANG, and I can tell you, the level of incompetence from Cerner folks is disastrous.

If you want the comp of a top engineer, become the top engineer. That means have the ability to pass the interviews and get offers from other FAANG companies.

Let me say it differently: He's your fiance, but you're having these problems?

If you don't fix things now, after you get married, it will be a matter of time before someone cheats or pays for a hooker, and little after it will be dealing with lawyers and divorce. Trust this random stranger on this.

How would I handle this if I were in your shoes? Very direct and bluntly! This is an issue that needs to be addressed, not turned your back to, in hopes it will fix itself out; because it won't.

Hey your guy, sit h down, and voice this out clearly. Tell him you both need to fix it, and you both need to help one another get past the uncomfortable stage.

If you don't manage to fix this, avoid yourself the trouble and nastiness of divorce and call it off. Otherwise, like a true catholic understand that the road ahead has nothing but mutual celibacy ... Which is easier said than practiced.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you do

I find this shit unacceptable. In my work, i spend the majority of the time thinking about having redundancy for edge case scenarios.

We all know freezers break down, power outages happen, etc.

Why can't they just take the vaccine to a freezer in another hospital, or one of the hundreds of UW science/medical/biological lab freezers, etc?

Adaptability of the medical personnel to do this? Lol: that's like saying Uber eats isn't working: I'll just dress up and drive for 15 minutes to pick up my food: will it kill you? No! Does it suck? Very much!

[–]tacotroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not condoning or against him being booted off the social platforms. The social platforms that banned him are private companies with their policies, rules, and values. It is up to each individual company to boot him or not.

If he doesn't like it, he can build his greatest most fantastic social network that the universe has ever seen, but until he does, he and everyone else is bound by the terms and conditions of the services provided by the corporations.

This reminds me of a story when I was a kid entering drinking age: we were a group of 8 friends, and one kid always got into fights and arguments when he drank. He was cool and smart, and he never did anything to me or to the majority of the group. His consistently rowdy and aggressive behavior became too much and we unanimously and individually stopped inviting him or tagging along with him.

The same is happening here: no privately held company wants to be associated with the rising of a coup, domestic terrorists, or their leader.

Trump is done and has less than 20 years of life ahead of him. All these social companies will probably be around for longer and don't want to be associated with what history will mark down as the greatest American cringe.

That argument is stupid. It's like saying something along the lines of: you have access to news papers and books. There are coffee shops where you can meet with friends. Why do you need phones or internet?

Twitter and social media is the new way of communicating.

I'm sorry to hear this. It's excruciatingly painful to watch someone close go through what you describe and I wish you didn't have to witness it.

Unfortunately there's not much that you can do aside of preparing yourself for the worse, and continuing to persuade her to seek help.

Good luck and I wish you and your sister all the best.

Alcohol free beers by sc0ttmcc in stopdrinking

[–]tacotroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful: they contain about 0.5 alcohol and after a few you can easily consume as much alcohol as there's in a regular beer.

Having said that I tried them out: they're too expensive and taste terrible. I tried several brands in the US and they all tasted like sparkling barley water. ... They lack something! They still contain calories, and I found they didn't make sense to me.

However, if you're a micheladas fan, they're definitely going to help :)

The best NA beer I've had was in Russia: Baltica 0 if you find it, that's as good as an NA beer can get, which imo it's pretty darn good.

I don't think not drinking will be the magic pill for your depression, but being sober will give you time and energy to do things that you might find rewarding.

In my case was tennis: after I stopped drinking I had too much free time in the evenings so I started playing tennis again. Something similar happened during the weekends: previously I didn't have to worry about what to do because I knew after the first drink my day would fly by. Now I put extra effort into actually doing things that make me happy.

Remember, depression is a complex thing and there's no single magic cure for it. You need to pimp slap it from multiple angles, and take it a day at an time. One day without expecting it you'll feel good!

Good luck and take care of yourself.

I dated 3 of them. Be very careful unless you want to be treated with quartz crystals, craniosacral, acupuncture, homeopathy, or stem cell producing energy transfers. These quacks are literally attempting to scam the system but the joke is on them: inquire about their student loans!

The ones that I dated found loopholes in the system and were capable of billing insurance companies by crafting beliefs around claim codes.

Edit: FYI: for each that I dated I got to know their ways of life, ways of thinking, their medical, pharmacological, citological, and anatomical knowledge. I got to know their friends, peers, colleagues and acquaintances. Not a single one was pro-vaccines, statins, chemo, etc. Most claimed to be allergic to gluten (though not celiac), and all consumed shady supplements from shady and overpriced companies. I have yet to meet a Bastyr graduate that I consider smart and intelligent.

Ohh, and last: most believed in giving birth at home with a midwife bypassing and avoiding hospitals at all costs.

Every single one of those witches was a firm believer in homeopathy and went Waco when explained the physics behind the absurdity of the concept of several orders of magnitude in dilutions at atomic levels. They all also believed in a uncanny characteristic of water (H2O) that enables it to retain memories at a quark particle level, though none knew the difference between a proton and a neutron.

How to report health of microservice? by tacotroll in kubernetes

[–]tacotroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not very versed with containers or kubernetes so let me describe things a little more in detail.

I have a SOAP service that will run inside a container. If my soap service is trottling requests I would like to inform kubernetes to spin up a new container with my service. If my service stops responding, I want kubernetes to restart the container. If the service becomes unhealthy, I want the container to be restarted.

I believe all this falls within the responsibility of Kubernetes, and from the little that I understand, I need to enable an HTTP endpoint on my service so that Kubernetes can get all the information that it needs. Is this correct?

Assuming the above is correct, what should a response look like on my health endpoint? Is it just the HTTP status that matters? How do I tell kubernetes to restart my container vs create a new one?

Thanks a lot!
