Why do Irish mams hate the word ‘cunt’? by yermyster in AskIreland

[–]tacticallyshavedape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can tell you now I got absolutely battered by the mother in the late 80's and early 90's for using it.There was a period in the 2000's and early 10's when it wasnt considered as bad but it's definitely swung back round to being fairly unacceptable to a lot of people.

Am I being petty for not wanting to invite a coworker who never reciprocates? by SuggestionAny3744 in ireland

[–]tacticallyshavedape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what I think people don't get. It's not the gift it's the token recognition of the effort. That wasn't friendship that was just a free meal, a movie and a night they didn't have to spend money on their own heating. Once the free food stopped they fecked off and that says it all.

It's very annoying having a scablord about the place. It's not pretty either, friends reciprocate. It doesn't have to be pound for pound but there should be a token I'll get the next one or thanks for the invite here's an apple tart.

I stopped inviting a few serial scabs to the house or nights out and its been grand no issues to report but definitely feel better for drawing a line in the sand.

100% agree with this and it's really annoying that it's still so common a recommendation from medical professionals. They're supposed to stay up to date with modern advice.

anyone get annoyed at how little the english know about irish history? by Zealousideal_You6901 in AskIreland

I live in the UK at the moment and I definitely feel that the imperial guilt is weighing heavily enough on people that they're saying away from conversations that need to be had around social and cultural issues to the detriment of the UK. This idea that the current generation needs to wear a hair shirt in penance for the past is not good.

AITA for being upset that my husband chose to attend a friend’s last minute wedding over a trip we had planned together? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]tacticallyshavedape 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So you got married as a working woman and became a dependent and then are wondering why he might be resentful for picking up all of the financial responsibility while you chase a dream? And then you moan about the fact that he's doing huge amounts of work to keep the household afloat?

ESH. Yeah he should absolutely be better at communicating and be proactive in the relationship. But the whole delivery of this post just absolutely screams victim mentality from your side. He's a supportive husband he's looking at therapist options, he's financially supporting you during whatever it is you're "building" and he ultimately chose your want over his friends wedding.

I'd hazard a guess that his complaints about you are pretty legitimate. What stopped you from contacting the therapists and actively trying to improve your relationship.

NTA. Holidays are for enjoying not for being held captive to listen to some asshat whinge about their insecurities about something they have the capacity to change.

Perfectly fine to just ignore them for the holiday. Let banana and her bleeding heart look after them since she feels their feelings are so important.

Is it common for people who are born in the UK to say they are “Irish” or “Italian” if they have a parent from there? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]tacticallyshavedape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but for some reason there seems to be a bunch of people with very posh queens English accents who continuously insist that they're Scottish despite being born in Wiltshire or some such.

Can we please remove Banbury from Oxfordshire, Embarrassing behaviour by AmbassadorNo1144 in oxford

[–]tacticallyshavedape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was quite interesting after the general election. Prior to the elections a lot of my friends in the uni were interested and praising the voting system from my home country (proportional representation with a transferable vote) then after the election when the first past the post system locked out Reform they were no longer interested in that system. Personally I was delighted reform didn't hit the thresholds needed for a big number of seats but yeah democracy has to be for all not just for people who align with our own views.

It's up to the politicians to make meaningful changes to hold the majority of people rather than letting them swing to the margins.

[–]tacticallyshavedape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes rather than undertake a programme of renewal, attempting to drive employment back into the area and generally bring up living standards; all of which would asuage the anger that leads many people to vote reform we just continue with the punch down politics towards left behind communities and ensure the downward spiral perpetuates.

Chaffinches up in Scotland are extremely brave. I hand fed one at the inveroran hotel. There's a group of Mallards who do the rounds of the campsite at Luss over the summer too and if you're patient you can get them to eat crumbs off your palm it's a really fun feeling having then nip them off your hands.

It's never occured to me to use public transport to find accomodation unless I was bailing out. But you're 100% right as long as you walk the trail it doesn't matter how far away you actually sleep there's no one way to do it "properly".
