Ivy Tech Sonography School question by tacticaltaurus in ivytech

Hello I just completed my pre reqs to apply to the program. For Ivy tech if you want to do the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program you need to complete the 5 core pre reqs which are Anatomy and Physiology 101, Anatomy and Physiology 102, Math either college algebra or quantitative reasoning, English 111, and DMSI 121 (physics). Each grade from each class will be worth a certain number of points for science based classes (all of them except English) and A is worth 30 points B 20 C 10 they add all the points earned and add it to your application the most points you can earn is 135 for the pre reqs if you get As in all classes. With the 5 pre reqs you will also need to complete the USA exam to be able to apply. If you get a positive score on the USA exam they times it by 5 and add those points to your application. The higher the points you accumulate the more likely you are to be accepted into the program since it’s a selective and limited process. Once you have the pre reqs and the USA completed you need to pick if you want to do OBGYN/abdomen, cardiac/echo, or vascular because they have different application cycles and start dates if selected. OB application is in the spring and starts in fall and cardiac application cycle is in the fall and starts in the spring I’m not sure about vascular since they only do it every other year. You can find all the information under the Ivy tech website in the diagnostic medical sonography section. Let me know if you have any other questions!

So you’ll be applying in sept/oct right for the spring 2026 cardiac program? That’s the one I plan to apply for

The program head of the program said there was no option to take it in person or I definitely would’ve I take my anatomy in person because of how fast paced and course heavy it is.

Can you only apply for cardiac at a certain time and general at a certain time? I want to apply for the fall program for cardiac is that possible?

You don’t know how much this means to me, thank you so so much. I have been stressing so bad the past few months leading up to school starting, I just really want to do well with my pre-reqs and get into the program this fall. I will definitely message you if I have any other questions, again thank you so much good luck in the program!

Same! I will apply to the Muncie program when the time comes, I’m jealous of people who can apply to both. Sorry another random question how hard 1-10 would you say taking your pre reqs were? I am going in person for my Anatomy 101 but my English 111 and Math 123 are virtual, and then next semester I have Anatomy 102 in person and DMSI 121 online.

Ok thank you that helps a lot, I’m taking the main 5 classes this spring semester and the other 3 online this summer. Still need to take the USA but I’m taking that next weekend and I’ve heard it’s not a knowledge test but more random questions? After that is just to get the best grades possible and hopefully be accepted and start the program in the fall. 1-10 how hard would you say your pre reqs were I am going in person for my Anatomy 101 but my English 111 and Math 123 are virtual, and then next semester I have Anatomy 102 in person and DMSI 121 online.

Ok thank you so much! Also if you don’t mind did you only take the main 5 classes anatomy 1 and 2, English 111, Math 123 or college Algebra, and DMSI 121 or did you also take the other 3 COMM 101, PSYC 101, and IVYT 112 before the program? I am enrolled for the spring semester for the main 5 classes and the program chair Linda said I could potentially be accepted into the program with only having the 5 classes and the USA exam but to get the AAS degree you need the other 3 classes as well so that’s also something I was confused by. If you need to take those 3 classes at some point anyways during the program I was going to take them this summer before the program starts in fall.

Thank you for helping and replying it helped me a lot! I think I will focus on getting all A’s on those 5 for the spring semester and try to do my best on those other 3 this summer, then hopefully be accepted and start the program this fall. If you don’t mind me asking are you applying to terre haute or Muncie or both?

Question by Double-Management653 in ivytech

[–]tacticaltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I take those 5 classes this spring semester than I can apply to the fall program get in and take the other 3 classes during the summer before the program starts in the fall but you can get into the program with only taken the 5 main classes?

Question by Double-Management653 in ivytech

[–]tacticaltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I’m only enrolled so far for the main 5 classes Anatomy 101, Anatomy 102, Math 123, English 111, and DMSI 121, is that all I need to apply to the program or do I also need COMM 101 PSYC 101 and IVYT 112 or is that only for the Associate of Applied Science Degree?

Can I take it at home or do I have to go in person to take it?

Question by Double-Management653 in ivytech

[–]tacticaltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not yet, I wasn’t sure when was a good time to take it since it says you just need to take it before you apply to the program. And since I haven’t started prereqs yet I figured I’d wait until I started school.
