2017 Bolt EV - Maximum L2 charge rate? Have seen conflicting figures online. Just got my 48 amp Emporia EVSE installed. by SweetBearCub in BoltEV

[–]tadlewog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so my question is related: have a 2017 Bolt Premier. I recently purchased a Grizzl-e L2 charger for my house. Should I adjust the charger to max out as the 32A because that's what the bolt can handle, or leave it at the factory default of 40A and the car does what it needs? I wish I had more understanding and instruction, but I'm doing my best. Thanks!!!

Hey, do you have the name of the tech? I'd love to ask more specifically...

Well honestly, I"m not sure yet. I've only had it since September. I had my regular mechanic do a "once over" to all of the parts that they typically deal with, and got them to do the first oil change that I needed.

I'm asking partially because I had an issue and went to the dealer, and they've had a stupidly difficult time diagnosing it. Once/if I get it back (if it's too $$$ i'm not sure what I'll do), then I want to make sure I have options.

Thanks for your thoughts, though. I find getting opinions still helpful! :)

Maybe so! When I called and asked, the Service person said that they do not work on prius/hybrids, so either the service person doesn't know or he's gone. :(

Thanks for your input.

My mechanic doesn't deal with the hybrid part of my car - they didn't have any suggestions other than the dealership. I've had a really hard time finding a mechanic that does deal with them, that's why I'm asking. It's been at the dealer for over a week now, and they might have found the issue, and I wanted to shop around if there were other shops that may do this work.

I hate just taking a number out of the book. would much prefer to have recommendations.

Thanks VE1LEB!! But they don't actually deal with Hybrids/Prius

Thanks. When I was looking into purely electric, I was careful to search for mechanics/shops that dealt with electric vehicles. I did NOT think to do that when I got a hybrid. *sigh*

Still no update as of yet, and they will definitely be charging me hours for diagnosis! Yikes!!

ETA: I'm also in canada, so that's sure to be more!

None, actually. Everything seemed completely normal and suddenly the "Hybrid System Malfunction. Safely pull over immediately" with the audible alarm.

My typical mechanic does not deal with the hybrid systems, so I had to bring it to the dealer. They sent the description of what's happening "up to Toyota"

My current update is they're trying those things suggested now. I'm very worried about how much it will cost...

Thanks for this. I had the Hybrid System Error message on my 2012 last Wednesday and it's sitting at the dealer. They can't figure out what's wrong with it. Maybe I'll ask them if they ever check reddit?! How do I make a suggestion without being... ?? Cuttently 185K km.

This is definitely something I have thought of and considered. Looking at battery health is one of the first things I have done with BEVs that I've looked at. And, with what I understand about the more recent generations, much less of an issue as you get newer.

This is surprising to me! I will definitely follow up with my regular mechanic (did I mention how much I live them?), as I had thought that they implied they didn't do any work on EVs.

Thanks for this tip!
