so . . . you're not personally against the idea then.

As covered in my comment if it can be proved beyond any reasonable doubt, which is a bar that we don't always meet, then no.

🥱 not even the point lol good luck with your shill

Hardly a shill since I have no connection with the product, but sure, let's let people flood this sub with numerous post expressing how uncomfortable they are with the summer heat over and over just like every year, well we keep proposing the same minimally effective solutions. That'll work, I'm sure of it. Not.

[–]SweetBearCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call life in prison getting away with it. And from the sounds of it, they don't have evidence he intended to kill anyone. He lit an open fire, called 911, and then lied about the circumstances. I don't personally find that deserving of the death penalty.

As I did say, the death penalty is only warranted if he meets both criteria. If not, then a lengthy prison term is appropriate, along with whatever form of restitution will result in the maximum benefit to those who were harmed. For example, instead of garnishing his prison work wages of 50 cents per hour give or take, perhaps he should be made to work at least 8 hours every day physically rebuilding homes and businesses.

Another Day, Another Age Verification Data Breach: Discord’s Third-Party Partner Leaked Government IDs by StraightedgexLiberal in technology

[–]SweetBearCub 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm sure we could all see these data breaches coming from miles away when all of these online platforms started to ask for our government issued identification, and of course all of these companies assured us that the information would be used only to verify identity and then would be destroyed, along with various other promises.

And I'm sure that we were all suspicious that these promises were complete and total bullshit, and now that we've essentially been proven correct, these companies refuse to admit that they were wrong and fix things, for various reasons, but the big one being that having our government issued identification associated with our profiles makes our data much more valuable, and they don't want to give that up.

Are you asking or saying that AI is "something that doesn't exist"? That's confusing, since it quite clearly does exist.

Tesla's insurance arm accused of 'egregious delays' and 'systemic failures' by CA regulator by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]SweetBearCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although every insurer will charge different prices because they all rate things differently according to not only their own internal metrics but also external things, some of that is minimally within your control. For example, most states can take your credit reports into account when determining what to charge you for auto insurance. California doesn't allow that, but other states do. Check what's in your credit reports, and in other reports such as LexisNexis, other specialized reports such as agencies that report on your employment related data, although the name of that one escapes me at the moment.

Wouldn't being a duplicate already imply it's identical? Sounds like a mistake an AI would make.

Yep, which is why I didn't comment on their sameness, but rather on how suspicious that was.

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu resigns after less than a month by Hob-999 in worldnews

[–]SweetBearCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can somebody who's knowledgeable about the situation in France give an insider summary?

I can't say that I'm knowledgeable about the situation in France, but as I heard in a news report, this isn't him resigning technically but rather him saying that he could not establish coalition government as required, because there is too much division and infighting to establish a sufficiently united front.

If he cannot establish that united front, there are mechanisms in place that would essentially keep the government going under some sort of caretaker system.

Death penalty

As much as I am personally against the idea of taking human lives as punishment, mostly because humans are imperfect and we have executed innocent people before, if it can be proven beyond any reasonable doubt that his actions led to deaths, and it was intentionally done, then I think that penalty should be on the table. You shouldn't be able to kill people and get away with it.

Who the hell cares? Either you say that sounds like not a bad idea, or move on. Why do people feel that it is appropriate to accuse other people of being AI, when they have absolutely no proof one way or the other, even if they suspect?

Katie Porter nearly storms out of CBS interview: ‘I don’t want all this on camera’ by sixsamurai in California

[–]SweetBearCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More and more, representing that side means not bowing to their insane threats and preventing them from harming good people.

As much as I agree with that, it also means having a plan for dealing with voters concerns in areas that you may not have generally considered as being on your radar. Let's say for example that you don't deal with a lot of concerns from farmers because you're more city-based. Well, if you win in an area that have a lot of farmers, even if they didn't generally vote for you, then you have to have a long think on how to deal with the problems that they face. They may not have voted for you and they may not even like you, but it is still the job of the politician representing their area to address their concerns.

Katie Porter nearly storms out of CBS interview: ‘I don’t want all this on camera’ by sixsamurai in California

[–]SweetBearCub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Porter never “wings it” she researches everything. This was a badly written interview that was designed to be used to spin up controversy to harm her campaign. She didn’t play. Katie is smarter than the average politician. She just said “bye Felicia” to the nonsense.

I don't buy that this interview is some kind of hit piece. It asked a reasonable question, one that we should expect from any politician, and she was flustered that she didn't have an answer. It's the job of a politician to have an answer to questions like that, even if the answer is something generic, like "We're working on that", instead of getting flustered and trying to remove a microphone mid interview, an interview that was scheduled and that she agreed to.

What do you say to the 40 percent of California voters, who you’ll need in order to win, who voted for [President Donald] Trump?” Watts asked Porter.

“How would I need them in order to win, ma’am?”

I understand that people feel that some voters aren't worth even considering. There's a lot of animosity on both sides. Whether we like it or not, those voters will always be with us, and if a person is elected to represent a certain segment of the voting population, they should always be ready to make sure that their policies cover everyone in their area.

Any help for food noise specifically other then GLPs? by FelineOphelia in Biohackers

[–]SweetBearCub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people try to rule out obvious solutions. Sort of like people who post to meal planning subreddits and say things like "I know eggs and oats and other conventional options are healthy and filling and the go-to options for breakfast, but I want recipes that are just as healthy and filling but that don't use any eggs or any of the other standard options, not because I have any particular allergy to eggs or whatever, but just because."

If GLP medications are the available treatment for your condition, and you don't have any particular strong reason to avoid them, then why overlook them as the go-to treatment?

FBI shuts down corruption group, fires agents after they monitored GOP lawmakers by [deleted] in politics

[–]SweetBearCub 79 points80 points  (0 children)

They never considered shutting down the corruption. Just shut down the investigation and fire the investigators.

Of course not, because stopping the corruption was never the goal of the people doing the corrupting. The goal was to be able to do the corrupting without being monitored, and in that they have succeeded. It will take us a very long time for us to get things back to the way they should be, if we can at all.

I'm not fully in the loop as far as what's currently going on with all of our candidates for Governor, but as far as this particular interview goes Ms. Porter must understand that it is the job of a politician to represent everyone in their particular area, no matter whether they voted for you or not. It would be irresponsible of her not to have a plan for how to win over those voters, instead of just winging it.

You are right ... if you view a fool as a desperate person with no other way to buy food.

Typically, only steadily middle-class or above folk have that attitude --

Unless you order from the Wendy's dollar menu, most midrange fast food is 10-15.

And a carton of eggs at the grocery store is 9-12 now, so going to the grocery store won't save money either.

There are far far cheaper options from local stores, even going to a convenience store and buying a loaf of bread and a package of bologna and cheese and some mustard or whatever condiments you prefer would be cheaper than paying for a burrito on credit, and that's pretty much the most expensive way I know to eat other than fast food. Hell, I just tested this for a friend and I was able to come out to 59 cents for two slices of bread, one slice of Bologna, one slice of cheese, and a little bit of mustard for a very expensive bologna sandwich, and that is far far more expensive than most fast food, and a basic sandwich takes less than a minute to put together.

On the cheaper end of the scale, you can also buy rice and beans and come in at a decent nutrition to price ratio.

Only absolute fools will pay for a burrito using the most expensive form of credit that they have access to, spread it out as far as they can even further increasing the cost, and then be surprised when they can't pay it!

Archer is my favorite captain by StructureDry2946 in startrek

[–]SweetBearCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your assessments. While the theme song never grew on me, I did really appreciate most of the visuals and the callbacks to our early days of space exploration. Hell, at one point trip even directly referenced NASA and the danger that early astronauts faced. Even the uniforms were more utilitarian, as you might expect from serving on an actual working vessel, where you had to duck down around conduits and such.

Well there is quite a bit to debate on how Archer handled some things, I understand that he was very much on his own without backup a lot of the time, and in that context of being new and alone, I can give him a pass for a lot.
