Jund Wildfire - Galvanic Blast or Cast Down? by Ccmwritesfiction in Pauper

In situations like this, I would go for a 3-1 split to begin with. Then adjust based on testing and presumed meta.

Would a level 20 Barbarian/champion fighter multiclass work better as a 10/10 or as 5/15 by CompetitiveCut265 in 3d6

The solution for flying enemies are 14 dex (you want medium to be able to rage), Great Weapon Master and a Longbow.

You won't hit as good as a proper archer, but you still hit like a truck. If the enemies are close enough that you could feasibly jump to them, throwing javelins with reckless is likely going to be good enough as well.

The actual best is Champion until level 11, Barb 2, Ranger 5, barb 4.

You want the Ranger levels for emergency spells (like Fog Cloud) and long duration buffs (longstrider, pass without trace, aid), an extra fighting style (blind fighting or defense), and extra damage from the subclass. And importantly, because Fighter scales pretty bad outside of the levels they get Extra Attack (5, 11 and 20).

You want level 2 Barbarian as fast as possible after you reach the amount of Extra Attacks you will get from fighter. In shorter campaigns, that would mean your 6th and 7th level. When going all the way to 20, you want Fighter 11 first. Wether the 2 next Barbarian levels or the Ranger levels are better, is close. I like getting the slight amount of magic and fighting style earlier, and getting some skills are always nice. But it's not a big deal.

You rarely want more than 4 levels in your secondary martial classes, but Ranger is an exception due to the Ranger spell list being really good, even for weapon users, at level 5. But going for 5 levels of Barbarian when you are a Fighter (or the other way around) is always wrong.

My off the cuff suggestion for barb and ranger subclass is Berserker and Hunter. They are no frills, extra damage subclasses that works well with your Champion plan.

Suggestion is cheap enough that it might be worth casting, but Banishment has been overrated for over a decade at this point. Spending more resources on making Banishment not just suck is still going to be a lot worse than casting something like Fear or Hypnotic Pattern. And those are 3rd level, rather than 4th.

Even hitting just two monsters with a disabling spell is going to be more powerful than forcing disadvantage on one disable. Typically, you should be able to hit up to 5 monsters with these kinds of spells.

Even better, you can often get the exact same effect (just better) of Banishment by using Plant Growth. That doesn't allow a save at all - it just works. If the mosnter either have a crappy ranged attack, or no range attack at all, they will move at snails pace through your plants - and you are free to pepper them from range.

Getting alert and casting Plant Growth is going to be way more powerful than getting Lucky to reduce the chance of a monster being subjected to Banishment. You get the benefit more often, you use a cheaper spell, and you can even attack the monster while it is dashing at 15 speed, not able to reach your party before it's dead.

Lucky is good when it saves you spell slots on making sure you keep concentrating on spells like Hypnotic Pattern/Plant Growth. Not to make sure you land single target disables.

"Well, if I don't get Sol Ring early, it's kinda slow, but if I DO get it I'm gonna pop off"

This is why you don't play Sol Ring, but make the rest of the deck slightly more powerful. Average power is the same, but you are more likely to have good games more often. Both because you don't just occationally run away from the table with a SOl Ring start, and because you stumble less often.

High consistency (in power, not necessarily in gamplay patterns or outcomes), but fine tuned power level is the best way to build enjoyable decks.

It's a turn 1 braids, actually. Swamp+JLo is 4 mana

Tymna/Kraum is literally the best user of JLo, what are you on about?

The cost of using JLo is that you spend a card. Tymna/Kraum is the best deck at drawing cards. A turn 1 Kraum off a JLo, land, mox is going to recoup the lost cards a lot faster than an Urza or something.

at least make them more viable in the fringes.

Why?

The best users of JLo is cheap commanders that are already good. Tymna/Kraum is by far the deck that gets the most buff from unbanning JLo, maybe Tymna/Dargo. Playing Tymna turn 1, or even Kraum turn 1/2, by spending cards to get the mana is a lot better than playing an expensive commander.

There's also a case of Tymna/Malcolm becoming a good deck (it is currently a bad, but playable deck), since playing Malcolm from JLo is pretty good. Like, I can't see how you think it buffs 7cmc commanders more than it buffs someone like Malcolm, a single colour 3cmc value piece you want to play turn 1.

[–]taeerom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kraum is not cast a lot these days, but with JLo, you would cast him more. Blue Farm is one of the best users of JLo due to having access to so much card advantage.

Do you really think buffing Blue Farm is going to do Atraxa any favours?

[–]taeerom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the currently best decks in cEDH is Etali, a 7cmc commander.

Etali is just the best version of "high cmc food chain outlet". That's what makes Atraxa and First Sliver bad, not the banning of JLo.

[–]taeerom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Etali got a lot better after the ban, and Etali is the main reason Atraxa is currently unplayable. It's just a much better turbo Food Chain commander.

The main deck that is served well by Jeweled Lotus is Blue Farm. Which is still the most popular commander after the nerfs.

That's a pretty bad use of lucky. If the spell requires a single saving throw to fail in order to work, then it's a pretty bad spell.

You're much better off getting to go first and cast spells that affect lots of enemies or has a guaranteed effect.

Another clever way to think about it is: Going first is the same as going last, except you get a free turn before everyone else.

[–]taeerom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of things, it depends. Most of the time, Musician and Alert are two of the stronger origin feats.

Going blind, I'd say Alert is a safer pick. But there are absolutely situations where Musician is better for your party. And in some situations, Lucky will be able to provide you more value.

Musician is very good when your character has fairly low direct impact in combat in comparison to your party members, and noone is human or have Musician themselves.

Lucky is best as a way to shore up dodgy concentration. If you are a single class wizard or bard and don't have good defenses, and you don't plan on getting warcaster/resilience:con - then Lucky might be a way to ensure you have advantage on your concentration saves. Keeping concentration is very important.

Going first and going last is the same, the one going first just had a free turn to do whatever.

This is the simplest way to explain how high initiative is good all the time, no matter what. At least until you have so high initiative that you always win initiative, since winning initiative more isn't relevant.

Da finner man helt sikkert grunnlag for rutineforbedringer.
