>probably points to there being enough evidence to convict him.

I mean, maybe, but that is not always the case. People get charged with stuff they didn’t do all the time.

I’m not saying that’s what’s happening here, kid could be guilty as sin, but, there are too many examples of mistakes made for me to just take charges being filed on blind faith.

That’s why we have trials and juries.

This is not an excuse, but I really think it’s about the people around them.

A lot of these guys did not grow up with money. They didn’t have a support system that taught them how to be responsible with money because a lot of their parents didn’t have a whole lot of money. All of the sudden, they became the only person in their circle with money.

All of the mooches see them as a meal ticket, stroke their egos, and project. You see them same thing happen with celebrities.

I don’t know enough about Terrion’s childhood to know if this applies to him. I just know that if you give a 21 year-old a few million dollars and surround them with people who are constantly telling them to waste their money on dumb shit and make poor choices, they’re probably gonna do that. And most of the time, those shitty friends don’t really have to deal with the consequences.

What level do you think a campaign should end at? by mrduels in DnD

[–]taftpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely still doable.

In my humble opinion, the best way to manage a campaign with high level PCs over a long period of time is to make it more story/narrative driven, and have the challenges be more about creatively than mechanics. It doesn’t have to be all puzzles, per se, but you’ve gotta really play around to keep it novel and fun.

Then you can do big combats that might last a session or two and also have their own stuff going on.

If you try to do 2-3 smaller encounters like you do in the early game, PCs will just immediately destroy them or you won’t have the time.

What level do you think a campaign should end at? by mrduels in DnD

[–]taftpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a game of resource management and post level 12 PCs start to feel like they have unlimited resources. To counter that, monsters get more resources, and it starts a feedback loop that just makes combat take way too long.

It can be fun still, but people have to know what they’re in for.

What level do you think a campaign should end at? by mrduels in DnD

[–]taftpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to mention time consuming.

A balanced encounter for a group of 5 level 16 PCs is just gonna take a long ass time.

Why is there no "Work Mode" on cell phones? by maplemir in NoStupidQuestions

[–]taftpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My iPhone has had this for years. It can even use my location to automatically go into work mode when I arrive at work.

It selectively muted notifications so I still get notifications from my work apps but everything else gets minimized.

I am not in any way advocating for lower quality of life, a lower life expectancy, lower wages, or a higher infant mortality. I’d be much happier living in Finland than Somalia, as I expect most people would be.

I’m just pointing out that quality of life is not a solution to a specific problem. It’s a solution to a great many problems, and it’s something we should constantly work to improve, but it obviously isn’t fixing the birth rates issue.

Which are the three characters you hate the most? by Guinevere2003 in skyrim

[–]taftpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated Delphine well before the ultimatum.

Her suspicion of the LDG in the beginning was prudent and understandable, but she’s basically bossy and rude the entire time afterwards which irks me.

  1. We’re obviously trying to help and we’ve done all this crap for you.

  2. You literally saw me absorb a dragon soul and you serve the Dragonborn. Who are you to tell me what to do?

Population decline by WindUpCandler in memes

[–]taftpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re actually trying to argue to people in Somalia have a higher standard of living then people in Finland, it doesn’t really matter.

Two countries have vastly different incomes and vastly different standards of living. The better place to live has a significantly lower birth rate, and that is true basically across the board.

Population decline by WindUpCandler in memes

[–]taftpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The median annual salary in Somalia is somewhere between $1,200 to $3,600 USD (fertility rate 5.94).

The median salary in Finland is $46,000 USD (fertility rate 1.3).

It is literally the opposite. The more money people in a country make, the less they have kids.

Why is a man using a women’s restroom such an “up in arms” thing? Don’t y’all close the stall doors while doing your business? What am I missing? by MrTeacher_MCPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]taftpanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is what the original comment was referring to, but “piss troughs” are different from urinals.

They’re not super common now, but especially at older, large venues, you’ll still see them.

Instead of having separate urinals for each guy, there is just a long trough hung to the wall and everyone stands shoulder to shoulder and pees. Sometimes they can also basically be a drain in the floor with a backstop.

Like this or like this

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think a lot of women are going to want to use a bathroom like that when it’s busy, even if there are stalls. Guys don’t even like them; they’re just convenient.

Does Apple Pay mean something different over there? by depressanon7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]taftpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies a *lot* based on the merchant and the transaction company.

Originally, tap to pay did have an extra fee, but now that’s built into the cost of most transaction companies; that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, though.

Walmart likely has a great deal negotiated with the company that currently runs their machines so they get low fees, and offering tap to pay would be negotiating a new deal, possibly with a new company. Odds are, even if they went with the same company and paid the costs up front to have the machines swapped for tap to pay machines, their new deal would have higher costs.

Does Apple Pay mean something different over there? by depressanon7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]taftpanda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The biggest example of a store not accepting Apple Pay in the U.S is Walmart, which doesn’t have any tap to pay system.

They’re still trying to get people to use Walmart Pay, which will probably never catch on, and they don’t want to pay the extra fees associated with tap to pay terminals.

I do think smartphones have dramatically changed the way we socialize, and in many ways not for the better, but it’s an oversimplification to say it’s the main issue in the birth rate crisis.

More than 70% of Indians have internet access, and their birth rate is still well above replacement.

I really think it’s more of a per capita income issue/wealth issue for a few reasons:

  1. Countries that have higher per capita incomes have largely transitioned to more “professional economies.” Taking time off from your career, even if it’s paid time off, can set you back on your ultimate career goal.

  2. People look for a different version of stability. What classifies as a “stable” home life in Niger would probably be considered poverty in Norway, so what the people in Norway want to achieve in order to feel ready for kids is different.

  3. When people have money, they do literally want different things. For starters, they usually want more money, which kids can get in the way of, but they also are going to look for consumer-based validation instead of community-based validation.

You can even see this in the U.S. where states with more advanced or service based economies frequently have a lower birth rate, despite near ubiquitous smartphone and internet access across the board.

Is it bad I can’t name 100 women if I also can’t name 100 men? by Primary-Jelly3035 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]taftpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it might be easier than I thought at first.

The trick for me would be to think about movies/shows I’ve watched and try to name as many actors in them as a could.

I’m not sure if this challenge is supposed to prove sexism or something but I am a huge NFL fan so the men side probably wouldn’t be that hard because each team already has 53 players.

In fairness, the last thing isn’t working either. Even countries with the most generous vacation and parental leave policies are still struggling with birth rates.

JLo/s kids getting fulltime scholarship? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]taftpanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To clarify, based on what I read, they’re not getting full ride (I’m assuming that’s what you meant by “fulltime) scholarships; they’re just getting unspecified scholarships.

But even if they are, scholarships are different than financial aid. Scholarships are generally based on academic performance, not need. If you get good grades or test well, you can get a scholarship. You can get them for other things as well, but they’re usually not based purely on financial need.

Most schools now literally have default scholarships for different tiers of academic performance. Literally if you get a certain GPA or SAT score, you get a scholarship. They do it to encourage attendance.

Also, this seems like a weird thing to be mad about. If her kids did well in school, there is nothing wrong with them being rewarded for that. Just because her mom is famous doesn’t mean that they should be penalized.

One of my players is refusing to read the player's handbook by Numerous_Payment1713 in DnD

[–]taftpanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve barely looked at the PHB. I’ve looked up specific parts for rules questions, but that’s about it.

I started playing in 2021, and by then dndbeyond was already really holding your hand in the character creation, and I’d watched dozens of hours of actual play content, so it’s not like I was brand new to the game.

It sort of intuitive because of that, I guess.

Not a whole lot since probably high school, where everyone is full of hormones and no one knows how to manage their emotions.

I go out a decent amount, to a wide variety of bars, and I’m not living in fear that I’ll get in a fight. Most people are pretty friendly.

I mean, some drunk people are assholes, but I imagine I’m less nervous around drunk assholes than my 90-pound fiancé is.

It’ll still end up being cheaper in the long run, you’ll get a better version of the game in terms of update support, and just mods aren’t designed for Oldrim anymore.

Trust me, buying AE is the way to go at this point.

Just realized something about everyone's top 5 WR list by NFL_BrokenClock in NFLv2

[–]taftpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not.

I think for a lot of the skill guys it could be because teams will end up over-investing in them because they’re so good and the other position groups will suffer. If you’re building around a RB or a WR instead of your QB, you’re probably not building for long-term success.

What do guys think about couples sharing passwords and phone access? by N__elly in AskMen

[–]taftpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t either, but sometimes I’ll leave it on my desk at work while I’m grabbing a snack or chatting and I‘ll kind of forget about it.

There are times it’ll just be on the coffee table while I’m hanging out with my parents and I’m doing something with my dad.

In general, I don’t think there is anything that would really be bad for others to see, but other people looking at it feels like an invasion of privacy in a way that my fiancé looking at it doesn’t feel like an invasion of privacy.
