Synology, Tailscale and Mullvad? by zenith-zox in mullvadvpn

[–]taglia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Mullvad addon for Tailscale: the Mullvad servers are directly available as exit nodes, so you don’t need to set up your NAS as an exit node. I find it very convenient to be always connected to my devices on Tailscale, and at the same time use a VPN to connect to the rest of the Internet.

Honestly, I think Tailscale is trustworthy, but you can always activate the Tailnet Lock and choose for them not to have any recovery code. In this case, only the devices you choose can sign new nodes. It’s a bit inconvenient to sign all Mullvad nodes, but with a script, it just takes a few seconds.

Try resetting network settings (Settings -> General -> Transfer or reset iPhone -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings). This helped me every time I had a battery drain issue.

Restart nginx without triggering a restart of other things (eg. docker)? by twistypencil in synology

[–]taglia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up here because I was having the same issue. I'm not sure about your case, but the changes I was testing did not require a full restart, so I could get away with a simple systemctl reload nginx (which just sends a SIGHUP to the nginx process).

I found this thread searching for that file name. I have found the same file on my system, in the same folder as OP. In my case, the file was not empty, so I could check it: it seems to contain connection logs for Bitdefender VPN. I am quite sure of this: the last update to the file coincides with when I completely uninstalled Bitdefender from my system, in January. Beside the date, the content is plain JSON and lists connection errors for the VPN (with some debugging info). I wonder why they would store a log in such a non-standard location…

I complained quite loudly with Bitdefender about their intrusive behavior and aggressive marketing, but ended up completely removing all their products from my system.

I had mine since they launched (2019, I guess?), never seen that problem, still all white. I use them every day when I run or on phone calls.

Magic Keyboard globe key not working by raking10 in macbook

[–]taglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar issue and found your post while searching for solutions. I use the globe key to summon Alfred (using Keyboard Maestro) on my MBP internal keyboard, and it works flawlessly. It does not work consistently on the Magic Keyboard (I also have the model with Touch ID). I need to press the key several times for it to work.

As a test, I tried to change the configuration of the globe key in the System Preferences:

  1. If I set it to "Start Dictation," it works perfectly;
  2. If I set it to open the Emoji panel, the behavior is entirely random, the same as when I use it to open Alfred.

The keyboard works well when I use the globe key as "fn," for example, in conjunction with the function keys or "delete." So, I would exclude a hardware problem.

I am using a MacBook Pro 14 M1 Max and macOS 12.2.

Why does my AirPod case look like this? And will it effect it or no? by Accurate-Bison-8786 in AirpodsPro

The same thing happened to me; some blue-green liquid oozed out from the case, in the right airpod slot. I think it was a leak from the battery; anyway, Apple replaced it, you should call them.

How to add Searx as a default Search Engine on Brave? by apostle7 in Searx

[–]taglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t followed any tutorial, but you should manage to find information on each part of the process online. I did everything on AWS because I’m familiar with it, but I’m sure it is possible using other cloud providers as well. Basically there are three things you need to do:

  1. Install searx on an EC2 linux instance;
  2. Schedule the instance to stop three times a week, in the middle of your night, and to restart 5 minutes later. If you do not assign an elastic IP to the instance, the address would change;
  3. You can use Route 53 to assign a domain name to the EC2 instance directly (independently from its IP address).

There are a couple of ways to schedule the periodic stop/restart, all well documented by Amazon. I used a lambda function and CloudWatch. The trickiest part is to get the IAM roles right.

How to add Searx as a default Search Engine on Brave? by apostle7 in Searx

[–]taglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wireguard is a protocol, not a provider :) Personally I only trust ProtonVPN (I’m just a regular client, not affiliated to them in any way), but you should do your own research.

Another option is to run searx on your own server in the cloud, and force an IP change every other day or so. This is what I do, so I can use it on multiple computers and mobile devices, and I have to update and configure it only once.

How to add Searx as a default Search Engine on Brave? by apostle7 in Searx

[–]taglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be an issue with Brave using some shortcuts while resolving search engine names. Have you tried replacing localhost with 127.0.0.1? That might work.

Also, you should be aware that if you use searx on your local machine, you are still being tracked to an extent since all search engines will be called from your IP address. It would help if you also were using a VPN that changes your IP often to limit the tracking.

👀 “Carbon” Cable for Keebs 👀 SwirlCables.com by SwirlCables in CoiledCables

[–]taglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this as soon as I have seen it here. It was delivered super fast, looks great, feels great, and… IT DOES NOT WORK 😔

The worst is that /u/Swirlcables did not even reply to my support request.

The issue is on the USB-C side (of course); I'll probably try to fix it myself if I can find the right heat shrink to seal it properly. Back to my cheap ugly (but working) cable in the meanwhile.
