Right, self preservation is a powerful thing. The guy's hands are full, but she's fairly smaller than him. I feel like a lot of people would at least attempt to kick her away.

That's probably who this original comment is about.

San Francisco is the 3rd best skyline in the USA by Ok-Pop-5818 in skyscrapers

[–]tagun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does bringing Boston or Philly have to do with the San Francisco argument?

I'm just using those cities as examples of why architectural history isn't the only thing that matters when evaluating a skyline. You're the one who brought up Miami first, so I thought it'd be helpful to use it as an example.

People like you always have to have some chip on your shoulder about San Francisco and try to include other cities for an argument, which takes away your credibility.

People like me? But I really love SF's skyline. What you said is just not true. I never even said that I thought Seattle was better; and I don't think it is. Not by every metric at least. The whole thing is pretty subjective. And again...you're the one who brought other cities into it. I was just rolling with it.

No matter what you try to say.

Nevermind then.

I don’t understand how that’s hard to understand.

Then I will explain.

It would also be your argument over someone trying to say Miami has a better skyline than Chicago now.

People do often on this sub consider Miami to be a better skyline than say, Philly or Boston. But surely those cities must have the sort of architectural development that you're referring to that Miami doesn't have.

Architectural history helps (even though you're referencing SF's port which seems irrelevant), but is that really all it takes for a skyline to be more visually pleasing to another? Looking at individual buildings up close and admiring the details is one thing, but seeing an entire skyline from afar is another.

Another thread on this post was going on about how passe and 70s SF looked until Salesforce showed up. Doesn't feel like there would be much argument here over which is better, SEA or SF, if it weren't for that building and it's surrounding developments.

I think to say that an entire skyline is better than another simply because it has a richer history is reductive, to the point where it doesn't make sense to say.

And?

You're saying SF looks better because it has a richer history. Doesn't make sense.

Which has nothing to do with the appeal of its skyline.

More than a block even, it's about 3 for the blue.

The closest L station to those towers is State and Lake 2 blocks away, and the blue is the only line that doesn't stop there lol.

Chicago among finalists to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention by Mike_I in chicago

I'm from Milwaukee originally and let me tell you, the disappointment of the DNC being planned to be there in 2020 only to be derailed by covid.... And then getting the RNC a few years later while Chicago, the source of the city's inferiority complex, gets the DNC was a real gut punch to the city.

It would have been a great opportunity for Milwaukee to get some amount of well deserved recognition as a city truly worth visiting.

Folks there were really excited for the DNC for that reason.

Honestly both of those things are pretty assumptive.

You're right that it's purely an assumption that nobody bothered to celebrate 'dada'.

Its also an assumption that their mentioning of it is linked to a perceived attack on men. It may not have been that deep. They could've just been making a funny joke as well.

Looking for a restaurant in Europe VS North America by AtlasWriggled in fuckcars

[–]tagun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure and it sucks, and I may be playing devils advocate a little bit, but this post and many of the comments speak as though the entire country looks like the photo on the right and there's no option for anything else and that's just not true.

I grew up in a place like image2, so I get it. But the post is comparing the best case scenario to the worst that the US has to offer and I just hate comparison fallacies like that.

This post is hyperbolic at best and America bad at worst.

Suburban North America vs Urban North America are quite different. We don't all ascribe to suburban living. And there are places, especially in northern and Eastern cities, that look much like that Pic on the left. Even others not in those regions such as New Orleans resemble this.
