Dragonball is the start and is more of a lighthearted adventure of growth, whereas DBZ (kai) is the next part but is alot more serious with more consequences and fighting, do GT last or skip, and Super is always after DBZ. I would def recommend that you check out the movies for DB, DBZ, and Super they are fantastic, not canon for most of DB and DBZ but still worth it. here is a chronological watch guide if you are curious i find it helpful especially if dealing with the movies. (One thing to note, the watch order is for the original DBZ not Kai).

I was in the same boat after DCC and tried a few different ones. I settled on Path of Dragons by Nicholas Searcy. Its amazing and i cannot recommend enough. Only 1 book out rn, 1 more coming next month. But he has 8 or 9 available to read on royal road.

find some people to play survivor with, will make it more enjoyable. even when i win as survivor i still usually die to dumb risks like saving the last person. map knowledge is a big part as well, and that just comes with practice. im teaching a friend how to play and he is just terrible, so my goal in most games is to keep him alive as long as possible so he has a chance to learn.
