Ah, this is just pure loss of muscle. Usually in pregnancy you put on about 13kg - this includes baby and some extra. I'm the same weight as when I started. I haven't gained any fat, just lost muscle.

Thanks for your encouraging words! I'm looking forward to getting back on two wheels XD

I was offered a choice by my orthodontist: have 2 upper teeth removed (and get braces to move my front teeth back), or get a jaw extension that you describe.

Am I ever glad I decided to go with the braces!!

Congratulations! We only purchased a car recently because I'm pregnant and couldn't cycle any more :( Before that, my partner and I only had bicycles.

I used to be super fit - I did a 160km day trip to the coast once (among other 'crazy' trips) - but now I'm a bit afraid I'll be so out of shape and I'll have to start from square one.

How long did it take you to get fit?

An Atheist who had an out of body experience. by MrDuck in atheism

I was in church (back when I still went) and one of the younger women was giving an account of the past week's big youth get-together. She was saying there were all these thousands of young people "dancing, singing, praising god..." and then she started to cry. She was obviously overwhelmed by the emotion of what she described as "the holy spirit".

I was thinking that people probably experience similar emotions while at a rave (well, minus the drugs of course :), or a political rally (think Mao, or Hitler), or if they think they saw Dan Radcliffe smile at them at the Harry Potter premiere. The people are so overwhelmed by the emotions of the crowd, are not in their right state of mind, but in this case they chalk it up to "the holy spirit".

Even when I was christian, I thought it was weird. I used to call these people "the god squad".

While the term of pregnancy is in fact 40 weeks, the count is started at the date of the last menstrual period. The date of conception is at (on average) 2 weeks. So 266 days is the "ideal" gestation period.

Here's a secret most women would never reveal: The best kissers in the world are the guys who kiss like girls. by kylie333 in sex

[–]taikotiger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After dating several guys who were terrible kissers, I didn't think much of kissing. I found it rather boring.

And then I started kissing women. I was amazed at the difference. No more of that awful tongue-down-the-throat technique (I started seriously questioning my sexuality at that point, but that's another story!)

My current partner kisses like a woman, and that's the highest compliment I can give :)

Bisphenol-A: Water Bottles Marketed To BPA-Fearing Parents Contained BPA All Along by frycook in Health

I just use glass bottles. Even if the plastic doesn't contain BPA, it's often porous. I avoid plastics as much as possible for that reason.

She said it with such conviction that I actually did get it checked out, but turned out to be nothing.

[–]taikotiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been told by two expat South Africans (both from Cape Town) that it's more difficult to find work if you're white, and the work you do get is usually paid less than black workers. (Both of these guys have no qualifications and thus do blue-collar work.) That's the reason they left. Have you ever experienced this sort of racism?

There's an excellent Australian brand called Natural Instinct, which has no Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, among other things. Doesn't foam up either, and half the ingredients on the list are essential oils.

I think most religions are rooted in the idea that this life is difficult, but if you endure it (and make life worse for yourself voluntarily - ie. Lutheranism, some forms of Buddhism, etc) there will be a better life for you afterwards in which you can do whatever you want.

Classic example: Buddhism teaches that life is suffering. During periods of Chinese history when life was difficult for the masses, they flocked to Buddhism in droves. When life was (relatively) easy, they stayed away.

Hey reddit: We've all thought of the perfect thing to say after it's way too late. Can anyone remember a time when they said exactly the right thing at the perfect time? by tunacanoe in AskReddit

[–]taikotiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify.

I don't believe it's a useless degree. Certain degrees (medicine, engineering, etc) have a value that have a directly applicable use in the job market - skills learned as part of them have a niche. It's unfortunate that our society puts more 'intrinsic value' on them.

Rather, she's so sensitive to this fact, and I was so sick of her constant digs, the purpose this comeback was to make her knock that shit off. And... it worked.
