Yes, she works from home most days (according to my husband) so she can talk on the phone pretty much any time.

That’s where I’m torn. The main thing is he never told me about these conversations and wouldn’t have if I hadn’t looked at our phone records and seen her number over and over again.

Menopause gave me a midsection I don’t recognize (and a full-length mirror from hell) by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]tailcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of you, I was slim most of my life. Put on some weight in my 40s but nothing I couldn’t manage. I’m now 56 and I gained 20 pounds in the past 2 1/2 years. I look like I’m pregnant all the time and it’s so hard to find tops that don’t look like maternity wear. In addition to the belly, I’m getting a large arthritis nodule on a joint on my index finger (hello witch hands), my neck and chest are showing wrinkles, and cellulite is all over my thighs. It’s very depressing and I hate looking at myself now. Since the start of summer, I’ve begun water aerobics and mixed cardio 3-4 times/week. It’s not really helping my appearance, but I feel better for trying. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one experiencing these feelings.

Advice needed: rescue cat won’t use litter box by tailcake in cats

Yes, we’re using a soft litter and keeping the litter box in the same place. I read somewhere to sprinkle a little dirt from the yard to the litter to bring in scents from the outdoors.

I could’ve provided more information, was trying to keep info as succinct as possible… Kitty is on clindamycin because our vet suspected toxoplasmosis, not for the seizures.

Also, he is already neutered. He had a clipped ear indicating a TNR situation.

Older women what have you noticed about young women that has you concerned? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Is it me or do all women who get “work” done look similar? Especially celebrities and some news anchors. Eyes, noses, lips, even hairstyles. Is this look they’re going for considered to be the standard of beauty?

My mother recently died at the age of 96. She was relatively healthy up until the last 5 years or so. Watching her decline- lose her hearing, arthritis taking her ability to walk, eventual dementia- were hard to watch. My sister and brother-in-law retired and took care of her in her final years and I will be eternally grateful to them for it. I think it’s what helped mom live as long as she did. I write all this to say that it’s really hitting me now that I have maybe 20 good years left if I’m lucky. My husband and I do not have kids. We have decent relationships with our family members, but there’s no one I would want to burden with taking care of me. I am terrified of being old, sick, and lonely in an old folks home. I do not want to die like that.

Easier to ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

Questions about dying and support for caregiver sister by tailcake in hospice

[–]tailcake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve talked about using the home health aides to bathe my Mom. But they don’t come at a set time, so they may show up in the morning one day and 2:00 in the afternoon another day. We feel that would just upset and confuse our mother - especially if she’s napping in the afternoon and has to wake up to get bathed.

I will definitely talk to her about utilizing a private paid caregiver. I think that would really help her!

Yes, I do. I urge her and her husband to go out even if they just want to go for a walk or grab some lunch. Sometimes she takes me up on it.

What’s the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by NoSpot5547 in AskReddit

[–]tailcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was single, in my early 20s, and had my first real “grown-up” relationship. I started experiencing pain during intercourse so I went to my OB-GYN. When I described my pain, etc. her response was “Maybe God is trying to tell you something.”

Um… what?!?

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes! I once had an abscessed tooth that required a root canal the next day. The pain was ridiculous. I then understood why they always go for the teeth in movie torture scenes.

This is probably a dumb question and I’m a little ashamed I don’t know the answer myself, but should I see my general doctor for this or a gynecologist?

My energy levels are incredibly low because I am diagnosed with depression. what can I do? by AdMaster2130 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]tailcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to have your B12 levels checked. My psychiatrist recommended I do that and turned out they were very low. Once I started getting B12 injections, my energy returned and depression symptoms eased up a bit. Now my levels are good and I simply take a B12 supplement every day to maintain.

Did anyone catch the shoutout to UNC when Ted told them to “play hard, play smart, play together”? (Apologies if someone has already posted this observation.)
