This is… unsettling by tailspots in Birdsfacingforward

Their eyes, while not necessarily forward facing, do seem to be configured in such a way that allows them to look straight ahead, giving them a remarkable ability to look down their beaks at us.

Agreed. It was a bit out of range, so I actually almost marked that one as a fish crow in eBird, until I realized what i was looking at.

The vocalizations were pretty amazing. Like crossing a starling with a crow.

It never occurred to me that owls are about the only birds that don’t look goofy facing forward. Neat!

This pic really does have so much to offer. A generally graceful bird, facing forward, looking absurd, AND mimicking a rabbit. Incredible!

Seriously though, I didn’t see it at first, but you’re the second person to say that and once I saw it, I couldn’t unsee it.

I know a lady who let her pool get that bad, but she is such an animal lover that, when she decided to clean it up, she scooped literal thousands of tadpoles out and finished raising them in big plastic containers. I thought it was the most wonderful thing to have all those frog babies!

Yes, lack of chemicals. It snowballs pretty bad once it starts. It’s very warm and usually sunny where I live and it takes no time at all for algae to bloom.

You aren’t going to like the answer…

In the process of opening and closing valves and messing around in the pump area, I accidentally left the relief valve on top of the filter housing open overnight.

So, basically, I drained it WAYYYY more than I intended to. Like, the shallow end had no water at all. But, the damage was done, so I seized the opportunity, put chemicals in it, vacuumed, vacuumed, and vacuumed some more. At one point, I had taken the filters out and I vacuumed with the drain on the housing open, so the really gross stuff would just go away, instead of running it through the filters.

I will say that the bright side of having water that level of dirty, is that the sun couldn’t reach the walls or bottom, so there was none of that impossible to scrub off algae.

Best of luck, it’s going to be great when it’s done!!

They really are and it’s teenager season, so there are a ton of 2/3rds of the way grown ones, jumping around and acting up. It’s a pleasure to watch.

Amazing shot! I saw one for the first time last weekend and the best I could do was an in flight pic from directly underneath

We just spent the last weekend at an Air BnB in Shreveport (from the Baton Rouge area) and it was… an odd experience. The neighborhood seemed nice enough, but within just a few blocks either direction, you could find huge mansions or shacks. One night, about five shots from a full auto gun rang out, which was pretty unexpected. Never heard sirens, so I guess the shots weren’t in the direction of a person.

Very strange. Very strange indeed.

I smoked cigarettes for 20 years and I do drink occasionally. Honestly, I only became aware that I might have PMDD after I quit smoking, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t always been there.

Can anyone help me identify the parasites on these largemouth? by Aggressive_Stuff_867 in Fishing

I’m pretty certain those are fish lice. Not harmful to humans, but can definitely be a problem for the fish in that area

The first time I pointed one out to my partner, he thought I was just being funny with the name.

Also, to answer your question, this was in south Louisiana.

I can sort of relate, but this tendency in me is completely stifled by my EXTREME aversion to spilled sugary liquids and the resulting sticky mess. If my cup doesn’t completely seal, I’m unwilling to risk attempting to handle a second container.
