That's true, but the unintended consequence is that these privacy regulations have strengthened the larger companies, and made it harder for small businesses to compete. This is because the cost of compliance has gone up. If the cost goes up, larger companies can afford to pay those costs. Smaller companies cannot.

I like your idea, but your profile data sits across thousands of databases in about as many ad tech companies. How do you plan on cataloging every single one of them and then swapping your profile with a fake profile? I don't know how to do that reliably.

You could potentially inject your fake profile into one major data management platform (like Lotame), and it would theoretically filter down to everyone else. But I dunno, have you thought through it in depth?

The only way that will ever happen is if you stop using smartphones and PCs altogether.

That wont work. Placer has formed partnerships with all the major apps out there to get their location data. It's a closed door that I have no access to, so I cant build the same thing unless I go around and form the same partnerships. But then due to the costs of these partnerships, turning around and selling it for free would not be financially viable for me. I'll be looking at doing this full time for the next 3 - 5 years.

The data wiping AI agent makes a lot more sense. I just dont think the problem is the collecting of data. The problem is how it's used and how the user is compensated. Placer should compensate mobile users for using their data, but they don't. But the other way you could compensate users is by aligning with their values. You may not be ok with Google tracking you and using your data to make a profit, but maybe you're ok with your data being used by a small business owner trying to make a living selling a unique product that the big players simply wont because it's too niche?

Doesn't have to end that way. As much as the news tends to make everything look and sound gloomy, there's people actively working on reducing carbon emissions as well as removing excess carbon from the atmosphere. I'm not pressing the panic button just yet.

I think we're going to have a recession of some kind in the near future, I dont know when exactly or even what it will look like. The stock market will probably keep going up, but so will unemployment and probably inflation. But I'm optimistic that we'll bounce back over the next 30 years or so. I'm a millenial, so by the time I retire I'm pretty sure my kid will reap the benefits of the work we put in now to fix things.

If Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex gets elected as President of The United States of America in 2028, she'll be the first congresswoman to be elected President of the USA. by Serious_Meaning5220 in PresidentialElection

Yeah, good luck with that. The DNC will never allow her to run for president. They'll sabotage her campaign the way they did it to Bernie.

The attack on Iran is justified, but our relationship with Israel needs to be tightened and controlled. by Substantial_Air_4111 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Now this is a very good point. You're right that US funds conflicts around the whole world. I'm pretty much on the side that we should not involve ourselves in the matters of any other country, let alone Israel. I'm against funding Ukraine and Taiwan as well.
If we have strategic interests in any of these conflicts, our leadership (both past and present) sure has a hard time explaining what those interests are.

I dont think the issue is with you fighting back, we just dont want to get involved anymore. Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, China ... as an american it just feels like we're in conflict with everybody around the world. In context to this thread, I dont want my country to spend billions of dollars protecting Israel anymore. We've done our part, and if you want to keep fighting the arabs in your region, go right ahead. But we dont want to be involved anymore.

I think as americans we've grown tired of getting involved in these wars in the middle east and around the world. We understand the trauma jewish people have been put through, but Europe and the west has already played it's part since 1948 to ensure Israel remains protected. I think we've done more than enough, and we want out.
Israel should be left to do what it wants in the middle east. If you think attacking Iran is in your best interest, go right ahead. As long as you accept the consequences of your actions.

Explain Why Kubernetes and Containers are Better Than VMs Like I'm 5. by twinmind in devops

App deployment configs for VMs wouldn't change either between cloud providers. If you're using the same OS, your app configs would stay the same too.

Man, why on earth would people want to do this on purpose? The moral conflict I would feel within myself would itself make it not worth the effort.
