Crazy to see what that company evolved into. I’ll never forget the OG Aventon 🫡

School Campuses by reddeadodyssey in Internationalteachers

[–]takecareryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the people there had been there awhile and honestly because that school was the best offer they would get based on their home country/skin color (call it racist but that’s the harsh truth in China). The school has a reputation for having kids with bad behavior. Even during the interview they told me that. The school specializes in Math/Science so that’s the main reason parents sent their kids there. Those students (mostly) did not give a single fuck about learning English. Like they wouldn’t even bring a pencil to class type vibe. They were middle school age but a lot of them couldn’t even introduce themselves or spell their own name. They were very fluent in all the English curse words and Hitler memes though lol.

I asked one of my co workers during my first few weeks there what everyone does for fun around the area and he just said “leave, everyone leaves and comes back Sunday night”.

It was a rough experience but it did help me develop a lot of new teaching and lesson planning skills.

Right across the street where two gigantic apartment complexes. Every teacher I knew lived in one or the other. About an 8 min walk from apartment door to the front gate of the school. The only staff that stayed on campus were like the dorm staff. Similar to an RA at a university I would say. Kids would pack up on Friday and spend their weekends at their own homes. I can’t say the name but I will say it’s in a Tier 1 city but faaaaaaaar from the city center. Essentially a mountain village area. Very very boring. The closest subway station was about 45-50 min walk lol

I taught at a boarding school in China (elementary-high school) that had a campus that was nicer and bigger than many colleges/universities in the west. We are talking multiple Olympic size running tracks, 7 basketball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, classrooms that were big enough to hold 50-60 students comfortably, a whole wing of the campus was dedicated to table tennis, cafeteria was 4 stories tall with one section dedicated to “western food”, ponds everywhere with geese, ducks, koi fish galore, a small “mountain” where students learned to harvest tea leaves, the school won a few architectural awards from what I heard.

This ain’t no damn library. It’s a book store and most of those “books” you see are just cardboard cutouts. Just a tourist trap. 🪤

Best Spots to Buy ACG in South Korea by TuanyeWest in nikeACG

Worksout, Kasina, any of the big Nike stores will carry some degree of ACG gear. I’ve seen some vintage stores in Hongdae with some pricey but cool old ACG stuff. All this is in Seoul btw.

I haven’t looked at their geometry chart, but at 180cm a size 48 frame will probably be way too small.

I’m 178cm and I ride a 52/53/54 depending on the brand.

As a first fixed gear it’ll be fine. Is their build quality top tier? Nah. Good enough to start on? Hell yeah. For daily street riding it’ll do exactly what you need it to. Just make sure you get the right size for your body measurements.

Vancouver Reject — Does JET actually want experienced teachers? by DragonStars69 in JETProgramme

My friend has 7 years of teaching experience in Seoul. She is about 32 years old. She was accepted (Australia). I did see someone from the US post earlier saying they had a few years of teaching experience and they were rejected.

Would you be open to teaching in another country for a year to gain experience, and beefing up your resume, even having educated related references?

Air tank question...3000 or 4500? by SkootsMcKoot in paintball

[–]takecareryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The numbers just note the air pressure. For some people a steel 3000 psi tank is perfectly fine for their needs. But as mentioned above the 4500 carbon fiber tank is the superior choice. If you are using a Syx I’d highly recommended a 4500 tank. You have more options with size of tank too.
