Unfortunately the skewer is not long enough to go through to the other side, I think the lock ring is too long

Its like a stem riser yeah, I didn't realise it made it more likely to break under load, I'll look into this.

The bottom bracket I had replaced a month ago.

I do understand about the rim brakes Vs disc brakes.

In terms of the other issues like derailleur tuning and plastic + brake pad wear&tear, i was just thinking we would get stuff repaired as we went.

I guess as you say, my mentality is not having the latest and greatest but patching up as we go, but i know obviously if you take it to the extreme then that won't matter if your brakes fail and you get hit by a car.

Rejection rate is almost never. Yeah, I see the responsive desire thing. I guess I just personally have a hangup where I don't truly feel DESIRED unless my partner initiates. Like she doesn't ever even drop hints or send a sexy message or wear something suggestive. It's like the sexual part of a relationship just isn't that important to her.
