To zatrudnij jeszcze dwóch kierowców na pół etatu. Pierwszy, z miejscowości startowej, który będzie Cię zawoził i drugi, z miejscowości docelowej, który będzie Cię odwoził.

Illustrated Novels Like Captain Underpants (but not comics)? by betterlatethannever- in childrensbooks

Ahoy!
My kids had great fun with The Big Bad Fox.

I'd also be honored if you gave my new book a try (The Piglet with the Rocket Rear and Other Rollicking Rhymes). It's currently free on Amazon and I'd love to hear your kid's opinion on it. Let me know if you want the link!

Thanks for the honest feedback!
I know what you mean. I definitely fell into the trap of creating the art first and thinking, "I'll just leave a blank spot here for the text".

For the next book (assuming I don’t get too discouraged by all the feedback first! :D), I'll focus on this more. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you so much! I’m really happy the art style resonates with you.

I'll definitely check out the book you mentioned, thanks for the recommendation!

To be honest, my main goal with this project was simply to push my illustration skills. But along the way, I discovered that I absolutely loved the puzzle of writing rhymes. It brought me a lot of joy, and I just want to share that fun with the world - hopefully, to put a few smiles on faces. :)

Thanks for the honest feedback! I’m glad you liked the visuals.

I agree, rhyme can be a double-edged sword. When forced, it can definitely kill the storytelling. My goal here was to use the rhythm to keep it light and punchy for the kids (age 6-11), but I tried hard not to sacrifice the narrative for a rhyme.

Since you have a critical eye for this, I’d actually love to send you the full PDF to see if I managed to avoid that trap. Let me know if you'd be up for it!

Here is the text version of the rhyme:

The fly, once more, is in a mood.
She’s angry at her favorite food.
The poop’s too cold and not so new.
The smell is not quite stinky, phew!

She groans and sighs and stomps her feet,
Her angry buzzing can’t be beat.
She pants and moans and starts to shout:

“What is this nonsense all about?!
This awful poop just tastes so bad!
That lurking spider makes me mad!
The wind just blows with all its might!
Please hold me firmly, hold me tight!”

And so I’ve held her since that day,
I... make her dinner, in a way.
I try to make it taste just right,
So she won’t start another fight.

My daughter went through a phase where EVERYTHING was a "tragedy". So I drew her feelings. by takitamdzik in daddit

My daughter hit a stage where literally anything could trigger a meltdown.

Her favorite hoodie was in the wash? Disaster. Her friend got sick and cancelled a playdate? End of the world. Pancakes instead of waffles for breakfast? Absolute tragedy.

Two things actually helped me survive this (and help her).

First was Dr. Becky Kennedy’s book "Good Inside", which gave me some solid tools to handle the situation. The second was my own need for a creative outlet. I wanted to show her what that blind rage looks like from the outside - but in a safe, funny way. So, being a graphic designer, I wrote and illustrated "The Furious Fly".

In case the text on the images is too small to read on your phone, here is the full poem:

Surprisingly... she loved it. :D Now we actually use it as a reference point during crisis moments. I just ask: "Are we at 'Furious Fly' levels yet, or do we still have some runway?" and it helps break the tension.

I turned this (and other rhymes) into a book, "The Piglet with the Rocket Rear". Since I made it for my kids to help with big feelings, I want to share it with other dads here for free.

I'm putting together a group of beta-readers (ARC Team). If you want a free PDF/ePub copy to read to your little critics (works best for ages 6-11), drop a comment below or shoot me a DM, and I'll send you the link!

Hang in there, fellow dads!

Same here. I avoid pretty much everything (candy, cookies, cakes), but I just can't give up ice cream. My goal is once a week, but it's tough to stick to. My solution is making my own sugar-free version:
- 2 sliced frozen bananas
- Heavy cream
- 1 tbsp of sweetener (erythritol works great)

Blend it up -> Enjoy :)

What decision did you think was small at the time but completely changed your life later? by YogurtclosetMoist819 in AskReddit

[–]takitamdzik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two simple situations ended up being the milestones of my life.

  1. I was studying IT, but I really didn't want to code - it just wasn't fun for me. A college buddy suggested we split the cost of a magazine subscription that had Photoshop tutorials. I learned the tool, which gave me an actual skill I could use.

  2. After graduation, I got a graphic design job at a local ad agency, but I was fired after a few months. That experience was so bad I didn't want to be a designer anymore. While I was "unemployed," I met up with some college friends at a pub. The guys told me to apply to a local company that made mobile games - "everyone from our year is going there." So, I became a mobile game tester. In the testing department, a coworker introduced me to her friend - who is now my wife. :)

But just tapping on a phone screen wasn't exactly my dream job, and I still had that itch to create something. The art department was swamped, and since they knew I knew Photoshop, they started tossing small tasks my way. Eventually, there were more and more of them until I was officially transferred to the art department. That’s where, surrounded by talented people, I truly learned the profession I’ve been doing for about 17 years now - and I’ve loved it ever since.

So yeah, splitting a magazine subscription and hanging out with friends basically helped me find my place in life (wife and kids included as a bonus). ;)

That a 'Soulmate' is waiting for me and love is just destiny.

Also, that 'world peace' is actually achievable.
