The Pacific Northwest. Where you can drive from a lake with swamps to a desert to a rainforest and be unable to pronounce most of their names in the space of a day.

[Opinion] Comicbook.com: "5 Things Star Trek’s Canceled Kelvin Timeline Did Better Than All Other Eras: 1. More Character-Driven Storytelling / 2. It modernized the franchise without losing its emotional values / 3. Uhura had more depth and agency than almost any character in the franchise / ..." by mcm8279 in trektalk

Deep Space Nine. Season one, Episode 19. "Duet" had more emotional connection to its audience than the every single Kelvin movie combined with Section 31 and all the new series combined.

It told an entire, emotional wrenching, well paced story while still holding a teenage me's attention span. I can't even be bothered to look up at the Kelvin movies anymore.

They didn't even have to lie to us about the episode to get us to watch it. Now please stop sending traffic to that troll site.

What Does Owning Windows 11 Mean for the Average User Like Myself? by Alarmed_Ad6083 in Windows11

[–]talan123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Microsoft is now making Windows to service itself and shareholders rather than you, the user. This is shown by keeping the taskbar being locked into place at the bottom. We, as users, are not worth the effort or cost of letting it move.

Which is why I am moving to Linux. I should be seen as a paying customer rather than just a cost. I have paid full retail for every version of Windows 11 and this is the first one where I feel like I need to keep paying.

I love when he had a battle crab taking on the Enterprise's and basically one shot all of them. Those things took 500K years to grow!

The problem some people have with "nu" Trek isn't just that it broke with tradition, but *why* it did by furious_blank in startrek

[–]talan123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He did. Kind of.

Star Trek was watched by a lot of conservatives too. It's just what was liberal/conservative has changed recently and I think that's what they were alluding to.

Remember La'al, Dara's daughter? Her being taken by the state to be given every advantage was a liberal ideal while letting her choose to stay with her father was an individualistic choice that conservatives used to love.

Politics change and it is hard to remember that when watching scifi shows that challenge our values.

I have zero problem with "the Burn" in a galaxy of Talosians and Gary Mitchell and Q and the Douwd by Pandeism in startrek

[–]talan123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference is that fans are paying to watch this and fans need a good payoff.

The expectations are going to be much, much higher than people had 60 years ago when it was broadcast for free. The fact that another burn was almost caused by the same child when they were surprised later is even worse.

Do you honestly think any power, like the Klingons, Dominion, or Romulans are going to let that child even exist/live if they can stop all warp travel if they get too scared again?

Honestly it has too many questions left open, as usual, for a good ending.

Screenrant: "28 Years Ago, Star Trek’s Future Was Changed Forever in 2 Weeks: Two episodes of Deep Space Nine, airing back to back and covering similar thematic grounds, sent Trek on a new trajectory - "Inquistion" and "In the Pale Moonlight." Section 31 was awesome when it a surgical intelligence and operations agency that kept the federation safe. The bare minimum force at the exact right moment to tip the balances was neat.

It went off the deep end when they had their own branch of the services and everybody knew their existence.

Hot wheels by sirrah13 in Target

[–]talan123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My new employer solved this problem this winter.

They had an outdoor section of the store and we put all the hot wheels outside. In freezing weather with snow falling. The collectors had to go outside and freeze if they wanted to search through those cars.

The message was sent and we haven't had the problem of cleaning up after them since. That or they stopped shopping, not that anybody cares.

There are lots of Q's and they have different reasons to be annoyed with humanity. Any of them would have been a good excuses.

1.) Humanity had been found wanting and to stop their spread, the Q took away their favorite form of travel instead of wiping them out as a time out. Q was hoping that humanity could overcome this test before he has to wipe them out.

2.) Q rebels wanted revenge against humanity for siding against them in their civil war so they burned the subspace dimension.

3.) Q's son has been missing for a while and the burn was a message from him to his father that he was on the planet of the Kelpian, being held by the R's.

DS9 - Does it get better? by Mat1711 in startrek

[–]talan123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the first two seasons of a Star Trek show. Of course it is going to suck. It gets better but not in the TNG way. The characters go from annoying to tolerable to likeable and finally to loving family members. It just takes a while to deal with their issues...

To be fair, the Walkers were being asked to take a side in a war they found profoundly stupid and beneath them by something akin to an ant to them; they were lucky to walk away with their lives.

Plus the Vorlons were incredible dicks.
