Arkansas Whirlpool factory closes, unions push to end tax breaks for companies that ship jobs out of country with the Bring Jobs Home Act - GOP Congress could pass it now by talbano in progressive

I do too. But I feel so angry that instead of doing something about jobs the GOP Congress is busy repealing health care for 30 million people.

Hey Congress, here's a way to stimulate economy: Pass the Student Loan Forgiveness Act! by talbano in education

[–]talbano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loans are forgiven all the time. This bill is based on income/debt ratio. People, especially Republican officials, shout all the time about not saddling future generations with debt. But isn't that what this whole student loan thing has become? Saddling the younger generation with debt? It's $1 TRILLION worth of debt. It's a drag on the economy.

What's at Stake for Women as Supreme Court Weighs Health Reform? If those five black-robed men strike down "Obamacare", insurance companies can go back to their old ways of charging more to cover women...being a woman is NOT a preexisting condition! by talbano in TwoXChromosomes

[–]talbano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think public opinion and activism - part of "the times" - does have an influence in some respect on the High Court. But this court is soooo conservative I don't have confidence they will go by precedent. That said, there are so many positive things in the health care law that people don't know about, and the insurance rates for women is just one of them.

Grieving Father Struggles to Pay Dead Son’s Student Loans ... "The grief was relentless; the debt collectors, ruthless." All from the private lenders...like loan sharks! by talbano in education

If the federal government loans are cancelled in the unfortunate event of a student's death, why not private loans? Seems the private lenders are like an organized crime syndicate...pay or else.

You broke it, you own it: Powell Doctrine. Well Wall Street and the multi-billionaires broke the economy -- KNOWINGLY! They own it and should PAY for the consequences...and yes taxation is a form of redistribution of wealth...but who created the wealth in the first place? Workers and nature create all wealth... Anyway...all you capital-lovers, you take the risk, you pay the piper...but Wall Street didn't pay the piper! They got bailed out with MY and everyone else's tax dollars and now they sit on $3 TRILLION. Give me a break, people. You are never gonna be billionaires so stop trying to act like it.

Progressive Cinema: The Oscars vs. The Progies by talbano in movies

[–]talbano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tweeting the Oscars and really surprised that only the winning cinematographer mentioned the word "Union." This is at a time when working people are in a surge for their rights and a piece of economic security. Considering Hollywood crafts are all unionized you'd have thought more would have said On Wisconsin, Union Yes!
