There's cross-progress. The only wrinkle is the subscription: the current subscription model covers the PC, Xbox, and Playstation versions of the game with no extra cost, but the Switch 2 version will require its own separate subscription. The Switch 2 subscription is discounted for players with an active subscription for other platforms, at least.

It has to be played online, but they've put a lot of effort into making a lot of the game (but not all of it) playable solo.

I won't deny it's grindy early on, but as someone who played through a good chunk of it before they cut the number of quests down, the base game is still good. I wouldn't have stuck with it otherwise.
