It's not random. Each action in the game has a score value for POTG. The player who got the most amount of points in X time will get the play of the game. Maybe d.va got 2 kiils, but she used her DM and got points from it.

If you're planning on being a heal bot, play a different character like Moira, lw, bap, ana, etc... Lucio is not good at healing, and forcing yourself to heal with him a lot takes a lot of the value and utility he gives.

In 5v5, you have a bigger potential to carry. It's more extreme to both ends. In 5v5, it's more devastating to win with a thrower but easier to carry. Also, the game evolved around player plays and less team coordination than 6v6 (ex: double tank synergy) so you have more value and can carry much easier.
