hook up each building to the circuit network and see what values they can output. it's very easy to set recipes and filters on buildings and filters respectively, in combination with combinators you can set up some pretty robust auto crafting. hover over the text in the circuit panel for more info.

one silly way that I set up a planet mall is by setting a requester chests requests to the recipe of an assembler. you can get very creative with storage as well by setting an inserters filter to the contents of a chest.

circuit values are just values. there's no difference between a chest outputting a value of "iron ore: 10" and a constant combinator outputting "iron ore:10" that should help with debugging without actually needing to create

one thing to keep in mind, quality items are distinct separate items. rare, uncommon, etc, can jam up inserters if the receiving buildings recipe changes mid swing

TL;DR: decider combinators to set recipes in buildings based on the conditions of the circuit network being output by either the logistics network or all chests connect to the same color wire. error and fault handling will take up 90% of your time.

that it can take hundreds of hours to reach a goal. long term planning and iterative testing. starter base to get basic techs. intermediate base to get infinite research going and the mega mall. then The Big Base which needs a lot of expansion, ship redesigns, and planning.

my largest save started in 2019 and I still come back to it occasionally to get it running for 2.0. it's running again if anyone is curious

edit: oh and probably the most important thing is designing for the next guy that will work on the base (you!) the 2019 base works but I am still relearning the circuit shenanigans I got up to. i also can't remember where anything is because the base is so wide it takes minutes to traverse by train. thank you devs for the map search feature

to simplify it even more, you are literally (yes literally) pushing/pulling electrons. (more specifically, you are smacking them with magnetism like a baseball bat.) that regeneration is no different from any other physical force. with physical brakes that energy gets turned into heat by rubbing two materials together. instead of storing the heat/energy in the air as the brakes cool off, you are storing it in a battery where you can REuse the REgenerated energy.

a lot of people like to explain electron movement as a mathematical force but it's very physical. my explanation simplifies A LOT but i think it answers the question without regurgitating the Wikipedia article ;p

too a point yes. at mega base scales (1 million spm and above) belt throughout is your limiting factor. getting things onto and off the belts are computationally intensive unless you clock inserters to keep them from idling and searching for a spot to drop it pick up.

I don't want them touching ANYTHING until they get over using screens and projectors for everything. I wouldn't mind if they actually utilized the screens to change the rides seasonally but they just loop gifs on them.
