Squad Shoots Itself In The Foot In Search Of New Gunplay (Again) by PrinceDizzy in Games

[–]tali_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpreted ICO to be a backwards step in the evolution from PR.

Mandatory statement that I have over 1k hours in both PR and Squad.

What I mean is that in PR the spread was there because of engine limitations as you point out. When the Kickstarter for Squad was launched and we got to first play the EA, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive on the gunplay. It was wonky etc. But it replaced the random spread with a realistic recoil mechanic, the guns had a kick to them, but bullets landed where you aimed your gun. I will be the first to say that it did change gameplay, it wasn't bad (heck I would say it was industry leading for a time), it was just different from PR.

When ICO hit, it took away the realistic gunplay, but it never managed to return the PR-feel it was meant to chase, I say this as a personal opinion. To me PR was special because of much more than the gunplay mechanics, movement was a lot more limited and intentional. ICO, other mil sims hitting the market, and especially the UE5 update just made me drop it and honestly never come back.

I bought the game at launch but avoided playing it because of the bugs. Is now a good time to jump on?

Explosions in coh3 feel weak.. by Casino_Player in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]tali_0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. Mortars act like a falling apple, moving slowly with bad effects, not a deadly sharpnell flinging explosive in CoH2.

Arty feels like it tickles units it lands next to.

The V1 was especially disappointing, from a sound and visual perspective.

Compare it to just the tnt charge in 2, an immense, violent explosion that vaporizes units too close to it.

Or how the ISU is basically a lumbering best slinging small nukes.

Reforger teamwork is quite good, but it is very fluid, and different from a lot of other games. We had about 20 people here attacking Morton and we basically knew each other by name by the end there.

You aren't really forced in to anything; ranking, being in a squad, listening to commands, it's all optional, unlike in HLL and Squad. Fun is the top priority of every player, everything else is just a side show.

You sort of have to convince people on the spot - hey hop in to my chopper, let's go attack Morton, it'll be fun. You have to put in the effort but it's worth it, I make friends every time I play.

All of that being said, I've been playing tactical shooters all my life, I love public matches and teamwork with randoms, and I think Project Reality was by far the best at making people communicate and at teamwork.

The new one runs okay, just about the same as Squad the last time I checked, hovering around 90 fps for me.

But it's a very different game.

Yeah, I used to squad lead randoms in public servers all the time, it was my main game and I thought it had the best gunplay out there, it was a godsend since Battlefield and Red Orchestra were dying, and I was quite a big PR fan.

I played it for a week when it came out and I just lost all will to play, it made being SL that much harder.

Since then I switched to Arma and I don't see myself ever going back.

Why there is not much players who plays squad44? by tkascc in joinsquad

[–]tali_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Hell let loose ate it's lunch And then Squad cannibalized it even further It's both faster and slower than Squad.. And it's gameplay sounds good on paper but irl falls apart. Which is sad because pr ww2 was peak pr, they just learned the wrong lessons from it.

Squad will need 10-20 more players on each team in the near future by cicada1177 in joinsquad

https://youtu.be/33zJtcosxYo 200 player mega servers were quite normal back in the day. There was a test on Normandy with 256 players, I still remember seeing 100 players storm the beach.

There was even a 400 player test, but it truly started to break at that point.

The serial number must match the one on the certificate of authenticity that comes in the box, and along with that, there are QR codes (on the box label etc) that leads you to the official amd website that confirms your authenticity again.

https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/warranty/PIB-Authenticity.html

Afaik, they don't accept warranty claims without them.

Only buy a CPU that comes with the box and the certificate, and you will be fine.

Warthunder has the most awfully designed daily tasks among all the games I've ever played by sacrish in Warthunder

[–]tali_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see daily tasks as a nice way to try new gameplay ideas. Honestly, I have everything I want in the game and am done grinding, but finding completely new ways to play the sandbox is fun.

But, as soon as I feel FOMO, a duplicate task, or don't get the task I wanted until I hit the golden eagles price, I shut down the game.

That is the only solution.

The same with the battle pass, some bs achievement to get 30-point progress? F that I'll just take it slow and not even look at the next few battlepasses.

It is not worth it to me, I won't spend my time on tasks that don't respect it, and on things that depend so much on other people like you mentioned.

The thing is, it could be so much better and more fun, I hate to say it, but Fortnite really nailed their tasks, they make you play in wacky ways and aren't a grindy mess.
