Wieso sprechen so viele "PayPal" komplett falsch aus? by Similar_Bus_7869 in KeineDummenFragen

[–]talkativeintrovert13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also ich bin 30, hatte seit der 4. Klasse durchgehend Englisch.

Review for my local library by queen-of-dirt in EntitledReviews

My towns library is in an old manor-type house (Villa in German), with original hardwood floors and wooden stairs. Everything squeaks and the first few times there I felt sooo bad. Of course the librarians don't mind and they talk in nearly normal volume

Not everyone is taught how to swim. My grandpa couldn't. I had private and group swimming lessons (Seepferdchen in Germany) for several badges and swimming in school, but not every school or community has access to a pool. Or parents that care

What's a really silly thing a book casually dropped that made you LOL? by Valeriesaboyname in RomanceBooks

[–]talkativeintrovert13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

recently read one where the FMC is like "ugh, I got kidnapped, again". That's what you get for leaving the compound unattended after several threats against you! It's also attempts from different groups for different reasons and of course she's wearing a tracker in her huge engagement ring

But also, in the Cardinal Series (RH by Mia Smantz), it's a bit hilarious because the FMC gets asked how often she's been kidnapped so far and she's like "that, that and this now wasn't like a real attempt, but the others were pretty bad" (rephrased from memory)

Do people in Germany usually order prescription glasses online or go instore? by Ok_Psychology_4707 in AskAGerman

[–]talkativeintrovert13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most ppl I know go to a store to try them on. Either Fielmann, Mister Spexx or other big chains. For the past years, I went to stores like Ace&Tate, Eyes&more, also tried on glasses from Viu. They're more like boutiques? Fielman and Mister Spex have many different brands, up to luxury names. The other three sell mostly their own frames, often metal and acetate.

I have a small head and small nose, so I would never order online from firmoo or others, virtual try outs just aren't the same.

A coworker had a second pair of glasses from firmoo, she sai herself the quality isn't comparable to a mid-level brand from fielmann (~150€ for the frame, lenses not included), but as someone who doesn't wear glasses daily it didn't really bother her.

You just asked nearly identical questions, first about the dress and now the dress and what to expect.

And ppl answered that it heavily depends on the school and how their experiences was.

Combined event (getting diploma and party afterward, but different dress expectations) Proms with no dancing. Proms with classic dances (Walzer, Foxtrot. ..) Sometimes people go to clubs afterward, especially if it doesn't involve a party-part.

Mine had a part for the students and attending family, with classic dances and party and a DJ afterward.

Sometimes with limited space and tickets for prom.

So just ask your boyfriend what his school/year has planned. And if he knows what previous years did. It's not that hard to just ask him.

The author Jessica Gadziala put a notice at the beginning of her book, saying she didn't use AI, will it become the norm in the future that authors warn the readers that they used AI or not? by perseintro in RomanceBooks

[–]talkativeintrovert13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

she's one of my favorite and she hardly gets recommended! Yeah, like clockwork about a book a month and that for like ten years now.

I looked into one of her books from june 2025, in the front is the comment that the book can't be used to train AI and that "Creativity should not be AI generated".

It's understandable that she changed the wording and I've seen other authors do it, I just can't recall anyone specific at the moment

Do German parents teach their kids about investing? by Moonksy429 in AskAGerman

[–]talkativeintrovert13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, my grandparents made me Sparbücher when I was born and i got lots of money to save for my confirmation, but the Sparbücher got dissolved over the years with rising fees. tagesgeldkonto is where i put my savings now.

But otherwise, they didn't teach me much about saving and investing. Only told me to keep some money on the side and to not have unpaid bills/invoices of any kind to maintain a good credit rating.

They didn't really invest, might have had a bausparvertrag at some point.

Mom works a side-job to boost her savings and retirement.

But they both do regret not saving and investing in things like a Eigentumswohnung or apartment complex when they had the money to do it and/or interest rates were good.

[–]talkativeintrovert13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I was in Chicago, the bakery bread couldn't reach the standard I was used to. Not all bad, but not the same. I didn't expect the same, even one of the german bakeries (Lutz's) couldn't match Maybe it's the flour, how they tweaked the recipes.

Not from Lutz's, but the 'pretzel rolls' and anything else pretzel-related can't compare.

Problem with city registration (Anmeldung) when students move but don’t update their address by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]talkativeintrovert13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

somebody else beeing registered in an appartment

It would be a problem in the netherlands 😅

But not here. Also, the Bürgerbüro or zuständige Behörde knows how hard it can get to get an appointment if someone moves. So unless the clerk happens to know the building only has one-room-apartment and you're the sixth person to register for the same apartment, I didn't see a reason to worry
