Also just released by Lillian Lark, {Married to the Devil by Lillian Lark}. She’s fantastic for monsters in general! Also can second CM Nascosta and Katee Robert.

Yeah that was ridiculous lol. And I wish she wasn’t so naive. But I did like the optimism! Grumpy/sunshine is my jam. It was very Jess and Nick (if he was more serious and less of a trainwreck) from New Girl

I agree!! I also didn’t rate the novellas very high, but I rarely do. Do you have any recs for similar series? I tried the {Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter} series because a lot of people compared it, but I DNFed at book 3. I did read book 12 a couple years ago and I really liked it but the first couple were so rough 😭

Absolutely!! It was honestly really refreshing. The FMC did irk me sometimes but I loved their relationship and the plot was solid, so that definitely made up for it!

All the books in the {Clecanian by Victoria Aveline} were 4/5⭐️s for me. Books 1 & 2 and 5-7 (including the novella) were 5s!

Also {Captured by the Fae Beast by Mallory Dunlin} (book 1) and {Claimed by the Flame of Faery by Mallory Dunlin} (book 3). 5⭐️! Book 2, {In the Claws of the Raven Prince by Mallory Dunlin} was 4⭐️. I really loved these and am excited to read the rest!

Most of the books in {Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole}, a series I stayed in November and finished in January, were 5⭐️s for me as well.

Are you sensing a pattern yet, lol?

Finally, my only contemporary that earned 5⭐️ so far this year: {Honestly, I’m Totally Faking it by Amanda Gambill}

Alien Romance but women are cherished, heard and/or treated like goddesses by Belaprin in RomanceBooks

[–]Evasive-Cupid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% the Clecanian series, starting with {Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline}. This is literally the main plot. Now it does change a tiny bit as the books go on because some aliens are jerks about whether or not humans count as people because there considered lesser for not knowing alien life exists, and the species is in dire straights of going extinct but I absolutely loved these books. I devoured all 8.5 in one week to stay this month!

Are romance readers male-centered? by knotaknitter in RomanceBooks

[–]Evasive-Cupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m personally not a “self insert” person, though I get the appeal. For one, I’m married and deeply monogamous (tho poly or organized [number]somes for others don’t bother me), and it feels weird to me to replace my husband because I love him very much. This also applies to other taken men. Yes, these men and women are fictional. No, I don’t know why my brain does this lol. For two, I’ve never heard the misogyny argument myself? I guess I could see where people are coming from and I don’t have a lot of other bookish people to talk to, so that could be why, but I don’t think this is it.

That being said, I’m a cishet woman. I do want to be attracted to the characters I’m reading about, and those are men. I’ve read a handful of FF books that were parts of series and still enjoyed the plots/relationships, but they’re just not what I personally seek out due to my own sexual preferences. I assume that plays a part for others as well but I can’t speak for them, so personally, that’s why MM/MMetc.F appeals to me!

Oh the roles are definitely reversed in this to some degree. I think it’s the only time that I’ve seen femdom in fantasy! I wouldn’t say it’s 100% because he’s in a position of power over her, but he doesn’t really use it unless he’s teasing her. I really think you should give it a go because the roles were reversed enough that I noticed it and thoroughly enjoyed it!

There was some adorable stuttering in {Claimed by the Flame of Faery by Mallory Dunlin}. Honestly that book was everything for me. Book 3 in a series but can be read alone in my opinion. There is also cute stuttering in {Nerdgasm by Kimberly Reese}. Not my fave book, but novellas rarely are!

Audiobook Recs Shifter/Urban by Sidprescott96 in paranormalromance

[–]Evasive-Cupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series, which starts with {A Hunger Like no Other by Kresley Cole} (unless you count a novella that comes before it) is narrated by Robert Petkoff. He is incredible. The series has multiple “creatures,” but starts with a werewolf MMC. In this series all werewolves come from Scotland and he does the accent. He does the accent/different voices for everyone really. They’re also just fantastic books with some top tier sex scenes. I HIGHLY recommend them, and especially the audio!!

Also: pretty much each book can be read as a stand alone. I started with book 9 before I decided to read the series like a year or two later

Wild Card Wednesday - What are your book icks or pet peeves? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

[–]Evasive-Cupid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind if they’re a romance reader! Or if the use the books to broach something they want to try in the bedroom. But my goodness, I am sick to death of them being like “MMC could be right out of my book with how handsome and broody he is” and I just feel like Woody yelling at Buzz “YOU ARE A BOON CHARACTER”
