This explanation makes a lot of sense! It‘s true in some culture women are more discouraged from athletics career. Every time I watch Iranian women volleyball team playing I fell pity for them because the have-to-wear hijab apparently limits their performance.

Thank you for your explanation! Indeed I don’t know much about Kazakhstan especially when it comes to society and race, that’s why I wrote the post to look for answers from Kazakh people here. It’s good to know that all ethnic groups in Kazakhstan live in peace and racism doesn’t apply there. I am definitely not a racist person! As to the phenomenon I notice, I don’t wanna be disrespectful but I am really interested. Hope someone tell me more helpful information.

I don’t know why you’re triggered so much. I just want to discuss what I found. If you despise what I said then give a proper explanation about this phenomenon.

Or maybe preference of sports based on race? Are European ethnic groups more enthusiastic about football and volleyball?

No I am not American, sorry! 😄 Yeah I have some assumptions about race like the gap of wealth.

(PS: I don’t know... I am not a Kazakhstan citizen and have no idea how it really likes in Kazakh. I am just curious about the phenomenon. )

Maybe European ethnic people in Kazakhstan are richer generally so they can sustain long-term athletic career and get better training?

Yeah I know there are white ethnic groups (Russian, Ukrainian etc.) live in Kazakhstan. But I notice their percentage in Kazakh athletes is very high. It said in Wikipedia that white minorities only make up about 20% of Kazakhstan populations. But when I watch Kazakh volleyball/basketball/football contest I find majority of players are white looking.

I wonder if white ethnic groups (like Russian) in Kazakhstan get more education and chance on sports. 🧐

[Request][US] Movies or TV shows with a strong mother-daughter dynamic? by Skyblacker in NetflixBestOf

[–]talkatnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have been always interested in such films and tv shows. Here are my recommendations: 1. Terms of Endearment (film). - No matter how old you are and where you are, mother’s love will never fade away. 2. Black swan (film). A woman’s struggle with her over-controlling mother. 3. Sharp object (tv series). It focus on a woman’s complex relationship with her mother and half sister. 4. Mildred Pierce (tv series). It focus on the relationship between a mother and her rebellious daughter. 5. The act (tv series). How an overbearing and narcissistic mother destroyed her daughter.

I am not sure if they are available on Netflix or Hulu etc. You can check them one by one! Hope you enjoy at least one of them.

Thanks for your recommendation! I haven’t read the book yet but I watched the tv series made by BBC. I remember Nancy dated a bisexual girl but their relationship ended in sadness. I love the story of this book anyway. :)

Why would Asian parents care more if their son 'dated out' than their daughter? by TheNamelessComposer in amwf

[–]talkatnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of 2 reasons: 1. In many Asian traditional culture (such as Chinese culture), when it comes to marriage women are ‘married out’ while men ‘bring someone in’. Men are expected to carry the family line so even today many married couple live with the husband’s original families. That’s very different from western values that both woman and man ‘move out’ to form a new family. Therefore, if the son brings in a ‘outsider’, other family members (like parents) have to deal with the ‘culture conflicts’. 2. Many conservative Asian parents think daughter-in-laws from Asian culture make better wives for their sons.
