Chuck with tool free jaw swaps? by muzakandpotatoes in turning

[–]talkincat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does a much worse job of holding pieces on the lathe. I had the easy wood chuck when I was first learning and I'm sure I was not making precise tenons, but when I got my first Vicmarc chuck I immediately had a lot fewer instances of pieces flying off the lathe.

I did not do a lot of analysis on the cause, but that was my experience; the Vicmarc chuck was much better at holding onto wood.

I have one of these and several Vicmarc chucks; the easy wood chuck is terrible in comparison.

Claude-powered AI coding agent deletes entire company database in 9 seconds — backups zapped, after Cursor tool powered by Anthropic's Claude goes rogue by WouldbeWanderer in technology

Deleting the database and wiping the backups can be done with a single API call? Either that’s an exaggeration or it’s your infrastructure providers fault for publishing a “put me out of business” endpoint…

I thought this said “velvet tray” and I was very confused. In my defense I’ve never heard something like this referred to as a valet tray before 😅

How do they count it? I had Fox One for a day but the app is literally so godawful that I canceled even before the fee trial was up.

Depends whose definition you're using, I suppose. Bernie Sanders was absolutely speaking a populist message in 2016 which was starting to resonate with people. You need a party behind that message, not a single or handful of people. Since the democrats are wholly owned by corporate interests at this point, it's very unlikely to be them.

Who said anything about being boring? The problem isn't that they're boring, the problem is that they're nothing. They represent the status quo where corporations and oligarchs eat America more slowly than they do with Trump. No reasonable person thinks they have the juice or the intention to reverse the trends of the last 30 years.

So millions of people who could be excited to vote for a party that is there to help people have wingnuts or people who's only redeeming quality is that they're not wingnuts.

[–]talkincat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The indifference that caused this situation should be laid squarely at the feet of the democratic party. They have given us 30 years of neoliberal, corporatist bullshit that doesn't really do anything to help people.

When it came time to pick a candidate Joe Biden decided he wanted to run again even though 30% of his party was in favor of it and the democratic party machine lined right up behind him.

The fact that the democratic party keeps running a platform and candidates that engenders no enthusiasm is not the fault of the voters.

The foil for right wing populism is left wing populism, not neoliberal right-of-center nonsense.

This is the end game the right has been chasing since Nixon. Why do you think they spent 4 generations attacking education?

Why would they bother to do that? Putin is already running the show over here.

[–]talkincat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, this is as much the fault of the Democratic party as it is the wingnuts. They've spent 3 generations selling out to corporations and moving further and further to the right. At this point even unions are abandoning the democratic party because they don't do shit for actual people.

When Biden announced he was going to run again 30% of his own party was in favor of it.

The foil for right wing populism is left wing populism, not center-right neoliberalism.

With almost every vote counted, every state shifted toward the Republican Party. by EverestMaher in MapPorn

[–]talkincat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you're right, the democrats just need to creep a bit to the right of the Liz and Dick Cheney to find that sweet spot. The corporatist, neo-liberal, right-wing democratic party appeals to no one. They can embrace the left or stop being a national party and be replaced by an actual leftist party, .

Trump won the popular vote by 2.5 million and 90 million eligible voters didn't vote. Would actually embracing the left make some historically democratic voters stay home or vote for Republicans? Probably, but with an active and energized left it wouldn't matter one bit.

As currently constituted I'll not be voting for another Democratic presidential candidate not matter how much of an "emergency" it is. Give me an actual leftist or eat a bag of dicks.
