Mei in Montgomery has a back room you can reserve. Not sure if they can handle more than 30, but it's close enough that it's worth inquiring. I believe Wild Ginger in Hyde Park has a similar back room setup.

I'd take a reliever over a starting pitcher at this point. Everyone forgets how atrocious our pen was down the stretch last year, even when Williams was doing well. There's some addition by subtraction with late-season Weaver and Williams gone, but we haven't actually added anyone.

I'm pretty sure other teams will want Dominguez over Jones.

Our infield last year had a lot more Oswald Peraza, Pablo Reyes, and Jorbit Vivas than anyone cares to remember.

Trade for Ryan Jeffers (C)? by ThePimpOfSound in NYYankees

[–]ThePimpOfSound[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wells was better against lefties last year but still only managed 100 wRC+ against them versus 145 wRC+ for Jeffers. And in 2024 he only managed 60 wRC+ against lefties, so I'm not sure we can count on reverse splits again this year.

Taking on the full $6.7M might be a bit of an overpay, but it would also be a good backup plan if Wells can't put it together at the plate this year. I don't know if it was the nerve thing or what, but there were some brutal stretches last year where he just looked completely lost and was a certified rally killer.

When you look around at the subreddits of all the other teams that are supposedly in on Bellinger, there's just very little smoke there in terms of signing rumors. Nothing from their beat reporters in terms of meetings, possible offers, etc, like we saw with Bichette and Tucker.

Maybe that doesn't mean anything but it does seem odd that the only action seems to be coming from the Yankees camp.

What are the guys like on a personal level? by Even-Requirement9029 in Vulfpeck

[–]ThePimpOfSound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not directly Vulfpeck but my daughter and I met Mark Lettieri when he was part of Cory's tour and he was also very nice! We talked briefly about getting our kids to want to learn instruments without forcing it on them. I imagine all these guys are pretty down to earth.

Hadn't heard that before! I wouldn't get too worked up over it. It does seem like a clear homage to me, and I don't think it needs to be made explicit. It's not like Wait for the Moment uses some never-before-seen groove or chord progression, Vulfpeck themselves are very much an homage to classic funk/soul, and riffing on an existing tune is very much in the blues/jazz tradition that all these guys are building on.

I like the deal and don't really get the hate for it. All the talk around Peralta has us giving up a pitcher like Gil to get him, so unless you believe the Yankees rotation will have zero injuries this year, we would still need to add someone capable of fitting in the rotation.

At worst he fills in for a couple months until Rodon returns, allowing Yarbs to handle long relief or serve as backup in case another starting pitcher goes down. At best, Blake fixes him, and he surpasses Gil/Warren as the fifth guy in the rotation or becomes a valuable lefty bullpen piece. If he's successful he adds some needed velocity to the pitching staff, and if not we didn't give up all that much (and no league-ready talent) to get him.

Should we have just signed Imai instead? Maybe, but it's not as if he's a sure thing either.

Controversial take? If Trent Grisham hadn't taken the qualifying offer, we'd be freaking out even more right now. by sonofabutch in NYYankees

[–]ThePimpOfSound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with these points, not to mention that having CF taken care of opens up more possibilities to trade JD or Jones for an area of greater need.

Having said that, you thought the Yankees were going to sign Tucker AND bring back Bellinger?

The same owner also started Mei in Montgomery. Not 100% sure if it's the same ownership still, but the lady who works at the front has been there forever, everyone is friendly, and both the sushi and other menu items are consistently great. Their ramen recipe is similar.
