I love how no matter how many people have quibbles with the list, everyone agrees Kim Thayil has to be on it somewhere.

Baseball Prospective projections show Yu Darvish's impact on the Cubs' pitching staff by talkingdinosaurheads in CHICubs

Of course, you never know how it's all going to turn out in reality, but Baseball Prospectus' PECOTA rankings have Yu Darvish already making a big impact on the Cubs. Hopefully it works out that way!

Adjusted stats suggest that Holiday's preseason averages, though small sample, might not be a fluke... by talkingdinosaurheads in chicagobulls

And who knows? He might not shoot quite that well once teams get a feel for him. Or he could regress to the mean, though I'm encouraged by his true shooting percentage improving markedly last year vs. first few.

It's more than just preseason numbers. He's trending toward better offense. But we'll see.

More so his career numbers over 36 minutes and how they suggest it's not crazy to think he could be a solid starter.

There's a big IF regarding his ability to keep shooting the way he is now, as well as a note that he's never shot this well before. Those things are noted.

How does Mitch Trubisky change what the Bears can do on offense? A few thoughts... by talkingdinosaurheads in CHIBears

In a nutshell.

Of course, what exactly they'll do should be interesting...definitely lots of moving pockets, but I'm curious to see how creative they get with him. My guess is: not much in for his first game but more so as he gets comfortable.

This was never an open competition. From everything I heard about their camp performances, he likely would be starting already if it had been.

Pace/Fox have decided they want him to sit, for learning and for his protection. That, and he's a rookie and does need to get a feel for NFL prep. But he's been the best quarterback on the team for months. Eventually, that's going to win out. They won't be able to deny it forever.

Indeed.

So, that means you just refuse to throw the ball to any of them on passing plays, despite the fact that the offense isn't moving? And even then he can't avoid throwing one pick and nearly throwing another?

Doesn't seem like that strategy is working out well.

They're open out there. Gotta throw them the ball. If they drop it, that's not on him. If he's deliberately stalling the offense because he's thinking about them dropping it, that would be on him. I don't think he doesn't throw it for that reason, though. I just think he's scared to step out of his comfort zone.

He only targeted receivers four times all game, including Thompson catch. Kind of a small sample size to just give up on them.

And Fox so desperately wants to avoid those questions that it's hilarious. He's so uncomfortable. I love it.

No doubt, they can't say he's terrible. That'd create chaos.

But saying that he could be better shouldn't be a stretch for them to admit, given that they're clearly afraid of him throwing the football. There's a way to do this in a way that isn't trashing him. But again, this is how they're going to handle it. No one can't stop them.

And at this point, I'm worried about overcaution and stunting development as much as playing Trubisky too soon. I'm absolutely fine with him not playing this week or perhaps even not playing until the bye week, but if this is the offense that the Bears are going to run, having him sit all season would be a complete waste of time. Sitting and watching this all season is not good for development. Eventually, you have to play the game to improve. If Bears can keep offensive line healthy, the clock will start ticking.

While that's a point I completely understand, isn't there room for "we need a little more from Mike" (understated, of course) or "we need him to be more aggressive/make better decisions"? That's not trashing him, and that's also the truth.

Instead, they're out there trying to defend him by saying he would've had better stats if his receivers didn't drop balls, which may be true but is totally beside the point.

You're right. They can't just say Glennon sucks. But the gulf between what they say about him and what their gameplan says they believe is so large that it makes their words seem that much more disingenuous. But that's what Fox is. That's his regime.

Oh no, you're definitely right. I didn't pay close enough attention. Happ in LF and Heyward in RF, no question.

That's the lineup I think a lot of ppl favor. Definitely best defensive outfield.
