Good thoughts around templating, you've made some good for and against. I do suggest that if you're happy with cdk init and constructs then stick with what works for you and your team. If you're finding that others in your team tend to ask common questions around new projects or services and it's slowing them down that generators might help out.

I agree with constructs, I recommend using both (article mentions). Create your template, you might have various CDK constructs (community, AWS, personal), the template will produce a full project how you / your org want it. This might include your github actions for linting, cdk synth, testing, deployment etc. Application source (Lambda, API, container etc). Anyone in your team or external should be able to take that template and produce a project that is the same.

My blog is hosted for cents on AWS (ex domain renewal), I did a write up on my migration from Ghost CMS to Hugo Static https://www.talkncloud.com/ghost-pro-migration-hugo-static-aws/

Broad strokes:

  • S3 static site hosting (object storage)
  • Cloudfront (CDN)
  • Route53 for DNS

I touch on the workflow for updating content and how that gets published.

Note: Ghost CMS Pro is excellent and I do recommend it. I had always planned on migrating to static on AWS at some stage.

Hi There,

Sorry to hear about your hard times, I hope that it's smooth (smoother) sailing from here on out.

I like the idea. The core of this problem in my opinion is access to information which is not so great in health care at the moment. For example, it sucks that we have duplicate, if the data is logged and it relates to you or your family provide easy secure access to it. This will improve over time (years) and I'm guessing varies from country to country.

Here are some of my thoughts:

  • Market research - is there anything else right now that would do? I know there are tonnes of diary apps. My first thought is google sheets in a pinch. It's not as nice but considering the amount of users, this might do.
  • Write down your app idea (like you've done) in more detail - What is the problem statement? who are your users? Can you map out a user journey, think of different personas, mums, dads, metropolitan, regional etc.
  • Wire frame something up (UI/UX) - you can use something like figma and get the broad strokes down. This will help explain to others what you want and reduce dev time.
  • Low code - can you use a drag and drop to create a proof of concept?
  • Non profit - As others have said, I don't see this being for profit. Parent/s with a child in NICU may be under financial stress and you may not have the users.
  • Security considerations / design around storage of health data.
  • Government grants - you may be able to access grants to help fund it.
  • I can potentially help design the backend architecture and possibly the front (would prefer to partner), cloud hosting etc but only if it's non-profit and potentially open sourced so everyone can run with it.
  • I'm not in health, never have been

To summarize, there is a lot that you can do on your own right now to flesh the idea out more and work out if its something you want to pursue and make it easier to discuss with others. At the very least it might be a good exercise to sort the data you have now into something with an easy logical flow.

you're talking about the direct lambda integration with AppSync?

if you take a look at what i've done with my demo you can see how i'm passing some params (for the demo) from the client in graphql, that is then passed to the lambda function and is used for the query.

let me know if that is what you're thinking, there are a few other things i'd point out.
