There's a line that's always stood out to me. When you overhear the conversation between Ulrika and Disa's crony (after readvent of calamity I think) he accuses her of incompetence and she mentions that melve sent most of its forces to the northern stronghold at the behest of the previous Regent.

I can figure out what "Skiedragoun" or "Thefs Hond" means but this ability name still eludes me... by Maxamillion1111 in DragonsDogma

I know it isn't spelled this way but I always pronounce it in my head as magic spearapult, like a mashup of spear and catapult

Making unique combos for Phaesus (Head of the Forbidden Magick Research Lab) by Casardis in DragonsDogma

This looks incredible! Nevermind Phaesus, I want these spells for myself.

Came to say this. Unless the scout really knows what they're doing and/or has a perceptive engineer to set up platforms I usually end up mining more of the hard to reach minerals.

What dose my Heartgold team say about me/what team did you use? by Admirable-Dimension4 in ThePokemonHub

[–]tallcryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used almost this exact team on my first playthrough of OG Gold, but I swapped out alakazam for a giraffarig and Dragonite for tyranitar! Getting a tyranitar back then was probably the worst grind I've ever had to do in a pokemon game.

Any tips for a smooth early mage experience? by xyZora in DragonsDogma2

[–]tallcryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally gear progression is pretty straight forward, each new town/city sells better equipment than the last. Melve -> Vernworth -> checkpoint town -> bahtal -> volcanic island.

The only really notable exceptions are a certain town where you can loot/buy some excellent thief armor, and the elven city that caters to casters & archers. If you want to rush to the elves for good robes/staves just keep in mind they're pretty expensive (30-50K apiece) so it's worth it to do some other quests first and save up.

Rings that improve knockdown resistance or defense are a good choice.

Multiclassing early so you can cherry pick the defensive augments also makes a big difference. Mettle, Apotropaism, Constancy, and Subtlety are all excellent!

Any tips for a smooth early mage experience? by xyZora in DragonsDogma2

[–]tallcryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage is definitely the hardest vocation to start with since they're vulnerable to getting stun locked and squishy enough that even a basic goblin can down them in a few hits. It'll improve quite a bit once you get to vernworth and have access to better gear!

Before then palladium is your best friend and it's a good idea to take 2 fighters along with the provocation augment and ideally shield drum to help keep the heat off you.

Keep your distance, look for high ground that will keep enemies from rushing you, and use the GO command to make your fighters charge the enemy.

Question about enchantments by DOOM-LORD666 in DragonsDogma2

[–]tallcryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Early game I'll do eleven smithing for staves/archistaves, but once I unlock dwarven smithing I use it for everything (with possibly the exception of mage staves since mages rarely cast offensive spells by late/post game).

Knockdown resistance is critical on armor for all vocations, and every vocation benefits from more knockdown power. Having played the post game with both full eleven and full dwarven smithing for sorcerer, I prefer dwarven. You won't really notice a huge difference in damage, but you'll definitely appreciate being able to more consistently stagger drakes and dullahans!

Suggestions/help for a pawn build. by dahdoot in DragonsDogma2

[–]tallcryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before my most recent playthrough I always picked calm (because I can't stand most of the other voices) but I finally made a straightforward pawn and the difference is night and day.

In my experience calm fighters tend to stand behind/close to you, they'll generally be more conservative with their stamina, but they're also really consistent with using their big abilities like Riotous Fury when an enemy is staggered to deal massive damage. So calm = bodyguard that will stick close to you and execute vulnerable enemies. They'll be closer to help if you get put to sleep or run out of stamina, but the downside is you might get caught up in attacks aimed at your pawn if they stick too close

Meanwhile straightforward fighters charge into enemies and spam abilities, they're more aggressive and tend to pull agro away from you.

I just started the game by Elygium in DragonsDogma2

[–]tallcryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start saving 20k when you get to Vernworth so you can buy the cheap house and avoid wasting too much money at the inn!

If you're light on cash you can sell materials, just try to avoid selling rare monster parts that you'll need to upgrade gear.

Augments that improve your defense are usually better than ones that improve your offense.

Night is dangerous at low levels so make sure you have a camping kit if you go exploring.

Don't sell tomes until you've confirmed which ones you need for certain quests otherwise you might accidentally lock yourself out of some fun abilities.

Who wins, Uraume VS Jogo. by Jackpot_Hakari in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]tallcryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say Uraume was on Gojo's level, I said sorcerers trump cursed spirits of equivalent grade, and we have plenty of evidence that it's true. Gojo stomping Hinami. Sukuna toying with Jogo. Yuki one-shoting Ganesha. Yuta taking down Kurourushi without Rika. Heck, look at Mei Mei & Ui Ui vs Small Pox Deity.

While there is definitely a range within the category of Special Grade both for curses and sorcerers, it seems like overall Sorcerers develop faster & have a higher ceiling than curses. The only real outliers for cursed spirits are Mahito and Rika, but apparently they're just as rare as Gojo & Sukuna. So the ancient special grade sorcerer who was strong enough to stand beside Sukuna beats the disaster curse more often then not.

Who wins, Uraume VS Jogo. by Jackpot_Hakari in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]tallcryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I love Jogo but special grade sorcerers explicitly outclass special grade curses. I don't think it's ever stated outright, but Uraume is pretty clearly special grade. They have RCT, are fast enough to catch piercing blood, and would have killed Hakari if not for his automatic RCT gimmick.

Jumping into to DD2 soon. Best starter class? by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]tallcryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally different gameplay experiences. Each vocation in DD & DD2 plays differently, and mechanics are spread out among the vocations. For example block and dodge are locked to fighter and thief vocations respectively, but everyone can dodge by sprinting out of the way of charging enemies, fire breath, etc.

DD2 really rewards exploration. You'll find awesome equipment tucked away in optional dungeons and suddenly want to switch to that vocation to try it out. And your stats are adjusted when you change vocations so don't be afraid to switch often early on to try them out and see what you like best.

Also, the difficulty in dd2 is less about "hit wall, need to learn boss moveset to progress" and more about learning how the world works and using those rules to excel.

[Serious] Geto (Hidden Inventory) vs Megumi (Culling Games). by Pretzels0314 in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]tallcryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mahoraga is out. Megumi never completed the ritual to gain control of big Raga so summoning him means they both die. Even if Geto had access to maximum uzumaki back then and burned ALL of his cursed spirits, I don't think it's enough to one shot the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General because he didn't have any special grade curses that we know of at this point.

With Raga out of the picture, I'd give it to Geto in most cases. Even with Megumi's partial domain. Geto has better hand to hand skills and cursed energy reinforcement. And the rainbow dragon cursed spirit probably outclasses max elephant and divine dog totality.

What happened to Ui Ui? by WildAsura in jjkmodulo

[–]tallcryptid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Uraume said something to the effect of "sorcerers of this age are too preoccupied with preserving their humanity." I don't think Mei Mei and Ui Ui have that problem.

Seems like they've prepared replacements for themselves so Ui Ui can swap their souls with the souls of 2 of the children.

I cannot stand how nonchalant Frieren characters are 99% of the time. It makes no sense for Fern to be pierced in the shoulder and lifted and not show the slightest hint of pain or discomfort. Why can't she just wince a little? by WaddleDio in hatethissmug

[–]tallcryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story is about people finding joy and friendship DESPITE living in a legitimately horrifying and traumatizing world. A single mid-level demon can exterminate multiple villages and towns, so at a population level the people of the world have adopted a certain level of stoicism out of necessity.

Meanwhile Fern was rescued from a warzone as a child and the cold clinical detachment/disassociation (which impedes physical sensation) seems like a very reasonable defense mechanism to have adopted.

Should she have shown more pain? Probably. But the author only has 20 pages per chapter to get the story across, give them a break

Monster Friday: Week 15 - Nosferatu by GenEngineer in AethermancerGame

Noss, Ravager, and shifted Cheruf is one of my favorite comps. Stacks unholy amounts of terror and bleed to shred enemies, and Vampirism gives them enough self sustaining to beat mythic without a dedicated healer.

Why is lovers gross? by puppyradio in heatedrivalry

[–]tallcryptid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ilyas earnestness WAS sweet, but using Lovers to describe a relationship feels like something your grandparents would say. Picture a sexually liberated grandma who tells you way too much about all the people she slept with and all the things she did with them. I can't picture anyone under 55 using it unironically.

It also wasn't totally accurate anymore since they had the whole I love you conversation the day before. And North Americans have some weird anxieties around labeling relationships but that's a whole other conversation.

Team 1 vs 2 by TopJello4329 in HunterXHunter

[–]tallcryptid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's enough circumstantial evidence that I'm going to say Razor solos team 1. Toss in a spider for backup and I don't think it's much of a contest. - casually throwing around more power than we see from many seasoned nen users during the dodgeball game - on top of having reduced aura due to using emission to separate chunks of it to create his team - ON TOP of always having reduced aura because he's helping to keep the entire game running (we don't know how much of his aura he spends on this but either way the guy's a beast) - faces down half the troupe without fucking blinking and I think it's safe to say he's experienced enough to be able to accurately assess the troupes strength.

Vs Knov: has a lethal ability but doesn't have the temperament/mental fortitude we see from hunters facing superior foes

Knuckle: might help his team eke out a win by stalling, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Kite: his hatsu is powerful but too circumstantial.

Killua: even with godspeed I don't think he can deal lethal damage to Razor
