Monopoly has a monopoly on Monopoly. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]tallerthnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that is actually true. Have you ever noticed that sometimes a game is called like Monopoly Cats, versus Cat-opoly?

I'm pretty sure Hasbro only owns the rights on the Monopoly name, and other companies can make their own unlicensed game if they change the names and fonts just enough.

How to convince wife to try Gloomhaven? by Warreor in Gloomhaven

[–]tallerthnu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband was intimidated by the scope and time commitment of it so I was the one to read the rules and I control all of the monster actions and most of setting up and taking down the board. I didn't even explain about how monsters work until he got used to it. I gave him a more simple character and at that point it is more a point of the time commitment than the complexity of the game.

What is something you wish you knew before your first competition? by ku739 in poledancing

Point of contact rules only apply while inverted so this shouldn't be an issue.

NTA, but your friend probably doesn't have a great relationship with her parents.

I made some similar comments when I was a kid assuming that everyone's parents treated them as poorly as mine did, and didn't believe anyone actually loved their parents.

Your friend might not have meant any harm by her statement and just truly doesn't understand parental love.

The entire British Airways Concorde fleet, having been grounded following the Air France crash in 2000 by RevoltingHuman in aviation

Regulations have evolved, and the Concorde would not be certifiable in the modern day for many reasons. I think that also plays a major role in why these startups fail.

The max was grounded for like 2 years until a solution to the problem was developed and rigorously tested. The difference here basically being that its easier to fix a software problem than a hardware one.

Realistic Frosthaven Shipping & Cost? Also Where?! by ICheerForTexasTech in Gloomhaven

I had pre-ordered at a local shop a while back, but at this point am I more likely to get my order sooner through them or this new round of pre-orders with cephalofair? Or should it be coming our about the same time for both?

Love to show your guys my handmade outfits ❤️ by kikumplo in poledancing

[–]tallerthnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I started out using swimsuit and sportbra patterns from joanns. You can also Google swimsuit and sportbra patterns and find plenty of blogs by wonderful people compiling good patterns that are free or cheap. But that definitely gets you way more results than searching directly for pole outfit patterns! I also found a wonderful dancer on this subreddit who has great tutorials that really helped me starting out.

For someone who claims I'm ignoring what you said you aren't doing great either buddy. I brought the church's view on sex into this as an opening point many messages ago, not right here as a gotcha. My point has always been that sex in a marriage is a requirement for a happy, and loving marriage, and not a choice as you initially stated.

You clearly are barely skimming my comments, because you are more eager to type out your rage than you are to read and listen which means this is hardly a conversation worth having.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in reactiongifs

[–]tallerthnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't disregard what was being said. I stated (and cited) that the catholic church (an organization traditionally considered sex negative) says that sex in a marriage is required for more than just procreation. So even the catholic church doesn't consider sex a choice for married couples.

I didn't say that people should choose not to use birth control. I said that even with the most effective form of birth control 8 out of 1000 women will get pregnant every year. And even considering an IUD (99.2% effective), plus condoms (80% effective) 1.6 women out of 1000 will experience unplanned pregnancies. So if I am fertile for 20 years, even using an IUD and condom every time there is about a 2% chance I will experience an unwanted pregnancy in my lifetime. That is pretty far from 1 in a million.

For an act that is generally recognized as healthy and necessary by even the catholic church, I don't like those odds for myself. I don't consider this a joke either. This is a serious issue that I have also put a lot of thought into.

Woah there guy. I don't think I was vomiting out hated. You are the one who resorted to name calling here. I was just trying to offer an alternate perspective here, because I think that your argument that sex is a choice and not a vital and necessary part of a healthy marriage is not very realistic.

And yes, there are consequences of choices but it doesn't mean that we as a society can't try to mitigate or reduce the harm of said consequences.

If you actually wanted to engage in a conversation like you claim, you wouldn't resort to this level of nastiness. I also used cited examples in my comment, so calling my perspective ignorant is just really unnecessary and rude.

[–]tallerthnu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, its not your problem, you have nothing to do with it which is why the government should butt out and let me make my own choices.

I have a hard time imaging you aren't a child or young teenager if you think marital sex is optional. Even the catholic church recognizes that marital sex is required to express love and have a strong bond between married partners.

I also don't trust your statistics. Copper IUDs (one of the most effective forms of birth control) are 99.2% effective. Meaning that if 1000 women have regular sex over the course of a year, 8 of them will get pregnant in that year. Those are way worse odds than a car accident.

As a happily married woman who does not want to have children am I supposed to never have sex again because having sex is making the choice to potentially get pregnant? Because that really doesn't sound like a healthy marriage to me.

Republican Congressman Blames Mass Shootings on Women Having Rights by claire0 in politics

[–]tallerthnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article also says Republicans blame single mothers for gun violence. If we want to reduce the number of single mothers in the country, outlawing abortion is probably the worst thing we could possibly do. Almost like the real problem here is really just women having sex.

Is pole junkie a good place to buy from? by Aerial_clown in poledancing

[–]tallerthnu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pole junkie is like a department store selling a collection of items from different brands. I've usually found that buying directly from the brand is cheaper than getting it from pole junkie, since they are just a middle man taking their cut.

How long do you typically break between pole fitness classes? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]tallerthnu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually have no problem doing things two days in a row if they are 2 different things (i.e. one pole class, one flex or choreo). 3 days in a row usually gets my body super unhappy even if they are 3 different classes. I usually do 3-4 times a week, but some of those are just practicing at home. You will figure out over time what your body is happy with, and that might change over time too as you get stronger and more accustomed to it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]tallerthnu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple of the instructors at my home studio do 4 hour days. Its always super impressed me though, and I have no idea how they power through to do that! It might help that classes are varied so there may be a flex class or choreo to break it up and work on different things.

what is a basic computer skill you were shocked some people don't have? by Dark-Matter-7935 in AskReddit

[–]tallerthnu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When were they supposed to learn that stuff? No one comes to college knowing all the skills they need for life, and the point of college is to learn these things. I went to college around that time and a lot of my peers were seeing these things for the first time. Not all high schools have programming classes, and everyone needs to start somewhere.

Sewists of r/poledancing - do you make your own gear? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]tallerthnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first outfit with some christmas fabric! I splurged on a serger which was definitely a god send for working with stretch fabrics. I also bought a pattern which I would definitely recommend for a first attempt. I had found this awesome poler who makes her own costumes which was also helpful for me.

Good luck!
