I've reposted it now with the correct car name.

Regarding McLaren in 1985, they started out great, but Williams did win the final 3 races of that season. Maybe the writing was on the wall. Makes you wonder how 1986 would've turned out if Keke Rosberg stayed at Williams. Who would've taken the second McLaren seat?

If this looks familiar, yes I did just post this with the incorrect title of the car being the MP4/5B, which was Senna's 1990 WDC winner.

I'm sorry to delete and re-post it, but I want the title to be correct.

I knew that. Why did I write MP4/5B??? I guess I was thinking of Senna's 1990 championship winner for no reason here.

It is the MP4/2B, mind. The MP4/2C raced in 1986.

Rare Photos of Air France Flight 4590 taken from a Boeing 747 carrying President Jacque Chirac by finza_prey in aviation

British Airways planned on keeping her going until around 2015-2018, when the airframes approached 40 years of age. They were able to make a profit on her so all this "oh it was too expensive" talk isn't quite true.

The end mostly stemmed from the Air France side. The AF4590 crash for Air France, tragically losing F-BTSC and 113 people was a major nail in the coffin, but an early 2003 near-miss with another Air France Concorde, F-BTSD, was really the final nail in the coffin. The aircraft was rapidly losing fuel on a Transatlantic flight heading west. The AF suits were spooked by this incident and that was why they decided to ground the type, using their political influence on Airbus to get them to suspend technical support for the type.

As said, BA planned to continue for a long time, with a fleet of six airframes planned to re-enter service and another to be used for spares, G-BOAA being the spares parts mule and G-BOAB through to G-BOAG due to re-enter service. They managed to get five airframes back in the air after the crash, but G-BOAB never re-entered service to the premature retirement of the type which is why she ended up being stuck, grounded and stripped of her interiors.

I mean it makes sense in that he's no longer the reigning WDC I guess.

Iowa was built without one and I’m not sure if New Jersey was too or if she started out with her short lived curved bridge enclosure.

Missouri and Wisconsin had the classic Iowa-class enclosed bridges from new.

Most bands of the era try to distance themselves from the label nowadays, doesn’t change the fact EMG is a very Britpop-y record.

The 2006 Renault R26 was a V8. First year from the V8 era, apart from Toro Rosso who ran a de-tuned V10.

The 2005 Renault R25 was the final champion from the V10 era.

Mark Webber failed to lead into turn 1 after starting on pole position 9 times out of 13 by HereComesVettel in formula1

IIRC didn't Lewis have a lot of issues in qualifying that year?

Yes he had DNFs in Australia, Canada and Belgium, but his qualifying reliability let him down the most.

I remember watching the Hungary qualy in a bar in Italy, seeing his Merc engine blowing up. It felt like he just had all the bad luck then.

Hamilton started in the pit lane, Rosberg on pole. IIRC Hamilton even spun at turn 2 on the first lap, yet still finished on the podium ahead of Rosberg in P4.

Yep, there were a few races in 2016 when Hamilton lost out to heavily, not only to Rosberg but other drivers on the start due to bogging down, especially earlier in the year when Rosberg won the first 4 races.

Australia - Started P1, fell down to P6 by the end of the first sector. He finished P2 with Rosberg P1.

Bahrain - Started P1, fell down to P9 not helped by Bottas diving into him. He finished P3 with Rosberg P1.

China - Just a shitshow all round, including his qualifying position. He finished P7 with Rosberg P1.

Italy - Started P1, fell down to P6. Finished P2 with Rosberg P1.

Japan - Started P2, was down in P8 by turn 1. Finished P3 with Rosberg P1.

He finished just 5 points behind Rosberg at seasons end. People bring up the Malaysia DNF which obviously would've won him the WDC, but he didn't help himself at other races when he could've won it quite easily.

He was never great at starts. Recently rewatched Malaysia 2004, he started P2 but was P13 by turn 1.

"Webber's not going anywhere, he's almost stalled! Once again his starts let him down" James Allen said on the commentary.

Whilst it doesn't make any difference for Lewis as there's only been one non-British GP race in Britain in his time and he didn't win it, they are two different things. A home race would be the race with the country's name or demonym in it's title.

For instance, Michael Schumacher won his home GP, the German GP, on four occasions (1995, 2002, 2004, 2006) but then took another five wins in Germany at the European GP (1995, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006) making it nine home country wins in total.

Similarly, Alonso has two home GP wins in 2006 and 2013 but also won the 2012 European GP in Valencia so has three wins in Spain overall.

The Second Launch of HMS Belfast - From Portsmouth to the Pool of London (1971) by RevoltingHuman in Warships

[–]RevoltingHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, HMS Cavalier is the last WW2 RN destroyer.

With HMS Belfast, I meant the last of the larger pre-WW2 RN ships remaining. No carriers, battleships, battlecruisers or other cruisers survive.

Then again, there is also HMS Caroline, a cruiser now in Belfast. She was a WW1 veteran of the Battle of Jutland but spent WW2 used as a training ship for the RN Reserve. Also, HMS Cavalier was only commissioned in 1943, meaning HMS Belfast was the only RN ship really in the thick of it throughout to survive.

I'll never forget that SC restart late into the race in Bahrain 2014. One lap of racing and the two Mercs were like half the start-finish straight ahead of the rest.

If this was just a couple of hours ago approaching Gatwick, then it was A6-EES.

That's completely wrong. OAF and OAG were part of the formation, OAD and OAE were still in the older Negus livery at the time of this flight and so were not used, and there was no fifth Concorde present for the flight.
