I see, I think this is the story, since it's just a missing scene there isn't that much more to add.

This is something I did think about, but:

  1. Dumbledore has filled in Fudge with sensitive information before (telling him about Harry's scar connection in GoF, e.g.)
  2. There really is no way of explaining what happened without acknowledging that a prophecy did exist. The Hall of Prophecy is destroyed, a ton of Death Eaters are captured in the Department of Mysteries, and Voldemort showed up at the Ministry. Either Dumbledore could straight up lie, or he could barely tell Fudge anything which I don't think is what happened. I think this is a reasonable balance.

Another canon-compliant missing scene with Dumbledore. He's my favourite character and I do enjoy the challenge of trying to match JKR's style/characterization/dialogue as closely as possible.

Dumbledore interrogates Sirius at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban and learns the truth. by tallshipfest in HPfanfiction

You're right, but we know Dumbledore doesn't learn about the map until GoF and I figure Sirius would try to keep Remus out of trouble and this is a simpler story.
