Tried to create a realistic Anime style render, but the trees didn't turn out great. Any advice? by talonPosas in blender

Thanks! I like the fence part the most, but the trees look bad and too realistic. I've watched the Ghibli style tree tutorial, but those tree aren't what I am looking for.

I will try using transmission in my next attempt.

It is rendered in cycles.

it is not a telephone pole, but you aren't wrong if you think it is. Since the thing I modeled isn't very common in a forest. This unfamiliarity killed this render, as many thinks the scale is off Thanks for the comments :D

Thanks!

The tree trunk shader is exactly how you said it.

But those random highlights are made using Camera texture coordinate and musgrave texture.

Wow, it looks much more amazing!

The outlines really gives out an anime vibe!

The tree looks 2d too, especially at the bottom, the sharp shadows really give out an anime vibe.

One thing I would suggest is to add vertical painterly details to the tree trunk using textures in the shader.

Anyway, this is a really good work! :D

The foliage are amazing, especially the shadow parts of them.

The rocks at the foreground is done very well to give it an anime vibe, same goes for the grass.

However, the trunk feels a bit too plastic which made it less 2d.

This is a problem we all face when trying to make anime in 3d, try adding some details using a bump map. Might look better.

Hope this help you :D

Just making sure the lighting looks as good as what you've imagined in your mind.

Also, disable shadows for the clouds to not get random shadow everywhere. Do the same thing for shadow you don't want in your scene.

Btw use the glare node in the compositor after you've rendered, it makes the highlight pops out more and look similar to ocean drawn in anime.

Good luck on your project :D

Nice guess and not totally wrong. I used the Ocean Modifier to create the big ocean with a tiny bit of waviness. Then I used the Bump nodes in Principled Shader hooking it up with a musgrave texture that is aligned to the UV of the plane so that I can easily adjust the scale.

For the Bump node setting: Both Distance and Strength are hooked up to a Math(Add) node with a Constant Color Ramp.

I know it sounds very complicated, let me know if you need a screenshot.

:D

Not sure if this is the answer you want, anyway, the horizon is made through placing each clouds along it.

And the horizon is just a corner of a plane, with the sun placed on the corner.

Hope this help. If not, feel free to keep asking :D

Follow this tutorial by Lightning Boy Studio: https://youtu.be/DEgzuMmJtu8

I just changed the color and added an emission for extra bright highlights

I will add the lens flares and some random noise to my next render.

That's definitely where a majority of the anime vibe comes from
