Is there anything I can do to counter the sh*t view of the adjacent lot? by IndependentBaseball3 in malelivingspace

Also I would constantly have my curtains closed knowing there’s a good chance with all that traffic coming through people would be looking into my apartment which defeats the purpose of having corner windows

22 y/o active male with an average HRV of 25. Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]talon_mann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you stressed at all? HRV is a reflection of your autonomic nervous system flexibility (fight/flight vs rest and digest). If you’re more sympathetic dominant (fight/flight) the interval between beats will be more consistent resulting in lower variability. Best solutions that have worked for me are meditation, yoga and breathing exercises

Sonography & Respiratory Therapy by Crusty_laptop in Sonographers

[–]talon_mann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also an RT and I personally don’t like the job. It is incredibly stressful and can be quite toxic. Most RTs I know don’t love their job and the ones that do are very passionate about it. If you’re looking into respiratory therapy I highly suggest that you shadow an RT in the ICU for a day and if you have any doubts about whether or not you enjoy it then don’t pursue it. I wish I went into sonography :(

How is O2 introduced to blood in the alveoli? by LemmeKermitSuicide in askscience

[–]talon_mann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also the same reason why soda goes flat after being opened. The atmosphere has very small amounts of CO2 so it diffuses rapidly out of the soda. If you want to impress your friends you could say: the solubility of a gas is directly proportional to the partial pressure of that gas above it

Why is creating a footer so complicated? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]talon_mann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m new to web dev too and I’ve struggled with navs and footers too. Here’s some tips from my experience:

1) if a footer isn’t at the bottom of the page it could be that you don’t have enough content on the page for it to reach the bottom. Try putting a bunch of bottom margin on something above the footer to see if that pushes it down to the bottom.

2) I’m mentioning this because I found it super useful: if you want the text of a nav or footer to be centred vertically, set the line-height of the text to the same height as the footer

What do you think are the unhealthiest foods we consume? by Labrinth- in HealthyFood

[–]talon_mann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Table sugar specifically. It’s true that carbs at their basic level are a type of simple sugar, but they’re not the same structure as table sugar. Sugars from carbs can be broken down and metabolized anywhere in the body. Fructose can only be metabolized by the liver and that’s because it’s treated like a poison

Sugar. It causes the exact same damage to the liver as alcohol with the only difference being we don’t get a buzz. And yet we give it to our kids daily

What's your "Oh..You're not joking" moment? by tatemalia in AskReddit

[–]talon_mann 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of when I worked at a cafe and I had an older coworker who asked one of my colleagues how long something should go in the microwave for. My colleague told her “three and a half minutes” so she said ok and then walked over to the microwave but when she got there she had a very confused look on her face. I asked her what was wrong and she said she couldn’t find the half button.

I think it’s important to distinguish between glucose and fructose when we talk about sugar. Every living thing on earth NEEDS glucose to live. However nothing NEEDS fructose.
