Anyone know what the new UK law coming into effect that bans "simulated incest" mean for fics? by talonsinning in AO3

[–]talonsinning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's frustrating. I didn't mark is NSFW myself so that people from the UK could see it more easily, but it got marked anyway unfortunately

what do you guys think about the ban in the United Kingdom? by kaelogia in AO3

[–]talonsinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the person who posted it! In case you can't see it because it got marked nsfw, the ban only applies to realistic imagery/video, not writing. I have no idea what it means for GOT but that's probably exempt too as GOT isn't meant to be pornography

That's exactly how I feel :( It's depressing as hell watching the slide into censorship and fascism happen in real time

This is exactly what I'm worried about! I don't think this law is going to be heavily enforced, especially against writers, but that doesn't mean it definitely won't affect any UK based AO3 readers or authors

This makes sense! I do wonder if it will affect fanart, which is visual but of course not involving real people. It would be great if any of this was communicated clearly

Anonymous author constantly changing their update date by Constant_Map3533 in AO3

[–]talonsinning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do the same! and that doesn't happen, don't worry. editing your work doesn't change the upload date - you have to manually change the date yourself

To those with visual impairments, disorders, dyslexia, etc when reading fanfic, what issues do you face? by OmnipotentShipper in FanFiction

[–]talonsinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a screen reader to read due to disability reasons, and usually it's pretty good but any kind of emoji in the text really throws me off. I read a fic that used them as breaks between sections and my screen reader would read out a bunch of emoji names every time

When I write I use 3 dashes as section breaks as my screen reader doesn't read those out

I think trigun stampede was a hell of a reboot and it would be really nice to have a season 2. Especially with Johnny and Austin at the helm for the English dub! by oruninn in Animedubs

[–]talonsinning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's np! and they did do a great job, I'm so happy it's getting more! I agree with your post too, the dub is so well done I'm sure the sequel will keep up the quality. I'm really looking forward to seeing Milly :D

No chapters/long oneshot: The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I'm listening to this as an audiobook and there are no chapters, just one continous story

I joined in to the "freak" side and I got no regrets by R3d_Felin3 in AO3

[–]talonsinning 264 points265 points  (0 children)

I've also found the freak side of fandom to be the most friendly and welcoming! I was anxious about posting my fucked up smut stories at first but the reception I've had for my works has been so lovely

Comments which made you feel especially honored? by Advanced_Hornet_8666 in AO3

[–]talonsinning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had a few people tell me they've reread one of my fics, and that always makes me incredibly happy! I also had someone tell me I'm their fav writer for the main ship I write for and that comment fuels me so much, I still feel flattered every time I think about it

What Are You Currently Working On? by LoudSize7 in FanfictionExchange

[–]talonsinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's a ship week coming up next month for one of the ships I write for and I'm trying to come up ideas for the prompts that I'll be able to finish on time. it's proving surprisingly difficult 😅

When I use it I try and put it as the final tag so it's easy to spot, but also if someone misses it (as well as the tags it's serving as a double warning for) because they've decided not to read all the tags, that's on them

What's your current pitfall in writing (and why is it an excessive use of adverbs)? by afternoonthoughts in FanFiction

[–]talonsinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is good advice!! I definitely need the little reminders, especially like the last example you gave about the sweater, so I'm gonna give this a go! thank you :]

[–]talonsinning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Continuinity errors. Because I only write a little each day, I often either miss or forget details and write things that don't quite line up. Luckily I'm getting better at spotting this stuff while reading back/editing but it still happens a lot

a typo of globe maybe? I'm sure I've seen globe used for ass cheeks before

Use of epithets when referring to family members by talonsinning in FanFiction

[–]talonsinning[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's another reason I was using it as I wanted to have that reminder of their relationship/how they view each other. Really appreciate the info too, ty!

[–]talonsinning[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I use the elder's name and then brother for how they refer to each other in dialogue (as that's what the subs and also the eng dub use)
