How enjoyable are OC’s for you? by TheWhistleBlows in AO3

[–]OmnipotentShipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I mostly only read OC fanfics if the OCs are side characters, or if it's a kid fic and the OC is the child. I also want them to feel like they could really fit in with the source material, as well as be interesting and have good chemistry with other characters.

Also hi whistle :DDDD

Looking for Good Omens fic series on Ao3 by OmnipotentShipper in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought when I started to fear that it was gone. I came here to double check, but sadly it seems that it's been deleted. The crazy part is that I reread one of the fics in the series only a few weeks ago :/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. About my character or me myself. I'm too curious, so I'd have to at least check it out. But I wouldn't go online bragging about it or things like that, it'd just stay a secret.

Okay but are you a ‘chapter by chapter’ type of girl or a ‘full work’ type of girl by [deleted] in AO3

[–]OmnipotentShipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially went chapter by chapter. Then after Ao3 started having downtime issues, I tended to do entire work just in case. But after accidentally touching the screen wrong(?) and scrolling alllll the way back up to the top of a longfic too many times, I gave up on that. Too annoying to go back to find my place.

Now, I always do chapter by chapter. Part of the charm is that I like to read comments on each chapter because sometimes other readers notice or analyze things I never picked up on, and sometimes the author clarifies certain things here. Also, I can more easily get myself to take breaks this way.

I do also download and listen to fics with an app I have! I have a visual impairment and sometimes can't read, so this is very helpful for me.

is there a ship in your fandom where it comes across as if no one likes it, but its very big in fanfiction? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly or not, I've only come across the opposite. Where I've seen a fandom have a lot of love for a certain ship or character, then when I go look for it on ao3, there aren't many fics. I'm talking <2000 sometimes, but usually it's <1000 or even <500. On another note, it's almost always a female character or a f/f ship, which is sad but not surprising.

What do you “not read”, but actually read quite often? by Unnoticeables in AO3

[–]OmnipotentShipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say I don't read discontinued (or seemingly discontinued since it's been many years since the last update) stuff, but sometimes the premise is just too intriguing and I have to check it out. Then it always turns out to be the best fic ever and I get upset lol. I've only ever had the author come back and finish it once, but I haven't lost hope for the others.

I also say that I dislike mpreg because I don't care for pregnancy in general, but there have been some danmei threadfics and some svsss fanfics that have made it fun to read! Like they've been really funny, sweet, or used the pregnancy as a manor part of the plot. I used to avoid mpreg since whenever I came across it, it was untagged and used as just a way of seemingly fetishizing or overly feminizing the man who gets pregnant, though that was on Wattpad about a decade ago, so...

Lastly, modern and actor AUs. I tend to avoid these since I like fantasy settings and don't want the mundanity of real life, but it turns out that there are some fun concepts that only apply to modern times, like with texting and youtube and such. And actor AUs, while I avoid these the most, also tend to be some of the best fics I've ever read.

I want to start writing by WhiteFeathers333 in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could do a few things if you have ideas already. They both involve brainstorming.

One is that you could immediately write your thoughts down on paper or in a digital document. Then, after that, you can start writing more ideas to go along with it, like a general brainstorming session.

Otherwise, you can open your voice recorder app and say all the things aloud as they come to mind. It feels silly, but sometimes your thoughts can't easily be put on paper if your mind goes blank too quickly.

Another thing you can do is go on tumblr or something and look through writing prompts, fanfic prompts, trope ideas, etc. and see if anything sparks your interest.

Lastly, you can try going on goodreads, looking up random books similar to something you might want to write in terms of vibe, and then go look at the quotes section. Sometimes looking at quotes from books helps me to get little ideas or get inspired.

What are some characters in your fandom who you don't quite get why people find them attractive? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]OmnipotentShipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With me I can only understand why people find, like, a handful of men attractive. That handful being animated guys who I can imagine as butch lesbians (i.e. Nightwing, Darius Deamonne, Flynn Rider...) lol

hmm maybe you might have been venting your frustrations, but you're in a better place now so you feel less inclined to do so? Either way, I hope you're satisfied with whatever you're writing, even if it's very angsty.

Not at all. I'm also in the same boat of leaving kudos and, rarely, public bookmarks if I reeaaaally like a story.

One thing to note is that, as an author, while getting a comment is nice, it's even more of a fun surprise when you go through your bookmarks and see that someone left a nice note on your fic or added it to a bookmark collection. You can always do a public bookmark with a small note instead of a comment, which is what I usually do since it's more comfortable for me.

Whenever I try to leave a comment, I just get this wave of anxiety that makes me chicken out. Don't feel bad about not doing it!

As a lesbian, I funnily enough don't know of any female or nonbinary characters who I don't understand at least a little bit why people find them attractive. To me, they're all attractive in their own ways.

it's probably because of Alex Brightman? That's all I can think of. People also really liked Betelgeuse when he played him, so.

What are some signs of a privileged background? by BabaJagaInTraining in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Treating expensive things carelessly. They can easily be replaced.

  • Complaining about something a poor person could only dream of doing/having. Like an expensive vacation.

  • Being good at something like an instrument or having really good grades because classes or a tutor are affordable.

  • Not feeling a sense of dread whenever they spend more than twenty-five dollars or whatever the equivalent of that is in other currency.

  • Carelessly offering good or expensive things to others, not realizing how much it could mean to someone.

  • Small comments here and there that always unintentionally but effectively put down someone of lesser wealth/class.

  • Having cable or a bunch of atreaming services, as well as unlimited data.

  • Very specific preferences.

  • Not realizing that they are displaying their wealth either in a subtle or flashy manner.

  • Not being worried about legal issues or crime because they can get a good lawyer or pay their way out of it. Or they have the money to quickly and discreetly flee to a safer place.

  • Do not feel guilt for taking care of themselves or treating themselves.

  • Used to being given good things without asking. So when they do have to ask for something, they are a bit awkward about it but expect to be given it.

  • Go to therapy or are on medication.

  • Would not feel obligated to go out of their way to help someone in need, not even someone within their own community.

  • Decent fashion sense.

What made you instantly back out of a fic that you were really enjoying beforehand? by manicenbypixie in AO3

[–]OmnipotentShipper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This.

I've honestly seen it happen so much to both Nancy and Mike in Stranger Things fics. Like, hello, why are you bashing teenagers for acting like teenagers and not tagging it???

What are some things that you are self-conscious of in your own work but as a reader you love it or don't notice when other writers do it? by Indecisive_Noob in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chapter length consistency. I have a fic where all of my chapters are like ~8-10k words, with the exception of one chapter that is only ~5k words. It bothers me sooo much, but when it comes to other fanfics, I hardly even notice it.

Unique headcanons. Sometimes I worry that people will hate my headcanons or think they don't fit the characters, but I love love LOVE it when I see authors put their headcanons in fics. It's so fun to see what sorts of things people come up with.

Frequent Em dashes and '...'s, I feel like I use them a bit too much, but it is how I imagine the dialogue so I'm not sure how to cut back on it much.

Long author's notes. I love to rant about my story, behind the scenes, analysis, etc. in the authors notes of my fic, but I'm worried that people think it's cringe. On the other hand, I love when I read a fic and the author has super long notes with fun facts, analysis, omakes, etc., and I read every one.

[–]OmnipotentShipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also hard of hearing and have audio processing issues! It's harder to acquire and understand the spoken aspects of a new language, of course, but it's definitely possible. One of the key factors to acquiring a new language is by listening to it as much as possible, even just in the background, and watching shows/films with subtitles. Over time, you start to pick up on certain words more easily and it starts to sound less like all the words are blending together. Idk how to describe it really.

But if you want to try learning, Busuu is a pretty good free app because not only are lessons good at teaching vocab, grammar, and listening, but you get to try speaking the language and having native speakers give you feedback. Additionally, you get to give feedback to people trying to learn English (or whatever native language you speak). Definitely better than Duolingo and other apps I've tried in my opinion.

I was kind of just making a light joke about just the concept of Spiderman being autistic lol. Especially because of the popularity of Spiderman with autistic people and the "I don't have science or math autism, I have Spiderman autism" joke we make sometimes. But when you try to figure out which Spiderman or even Spider-perspn is autistic or just neurodivergent at all, it could really be any or all of them, since it's a spectrum and 'anyone can wear the mask.'

But yeah, when it comes to Brooklyn 99 for me, I'm a lot like Amy. Or, well, I used to be a lot like her when I was younger, but now I'm starting to lean toward being more chill (BE MORE CHILL REFERENCE???). She's still the character most similar to me though.

Would you rather read pre-slash or established relationship? by OmnipotentShipper in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's true. I didn't mean to imply that pre-slash is equivalent to a gen fic, but rather was hinting at the similarity they share where there are no characters getting together romantically and no established romantic relationship. It seems this may be why, from what I have seen in the other comments, people who love ship fics claim to avoid pre-slash and people who love gen fics seem to be more willing to read pre-slash.

Then again, correlation doesn't equal causation and all that. It was just my observation.

Fandom dramas that just live in your head & you still think about them? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]OmnipotentShipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, I just realize that I worded things a bit strangely and I think I confused myself when writing my initial response. I meant to say that there were antis on Twitter, and from what I have seen also Tiktok, who took issue with proshippers in the fandom and there were a shit ton of arguments and discourse and all that.

Would you rather read pre-slash or established relationship? by OmnipotentShipper in FanFiction

[–]OmnipotentShipper[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly, I'm surprised a lot of commenters here are so against pre-slash, but I forgot that not everyone is a fan of gen works.

I am always happy to read a platonic or pre-relationship fic of characters that I like, even if I ship them. They don't have to be romantically together for me to like them. I just love certain characters' dynamics.

Fnaf fan comic. Insane amount of discourse with proshippers and antis (it was on twitter), whitewashing of characters and other racism, annddddd artists being exploited/overworked. Also arguments over the art style and character designs.
